Ohhh shippers *g*
Jul. 16th, 2004 04:29 pmOoookay this is the first entry I wrote today? I don't think so. But whatever, if LJ wants to play it that way, why not? *shrug*
Just received A Dangerous Thing by Josh Lanyon - praised be Amazon. Too bad the prequel didn't make it home first though, because now I'm being tempted by this second book in the Adrien English series and I just know I'll read it even though I don't know anything about Fatal Shadows yet. To be honest, I usually love reading a sequel before the prequel, because should I end up loving #2 I'll be all the more excited to go back to #1 afterward and fill all the blanks. I know, I'm odd *cough*
Also hey, I read The Season of our Contentment and I was finally able to hear the voices of all the B/J moderates, ie the tolerant ones. Twas really nice, and I'm even glad on their behalf that they had the opportunity to make themselves heard.
Know what? I'm so used to having SG slashers on my flist that I never really think of how the shippers actually see the show. I mean, I just hear about all the wanks and the ship wars and that's it - and even those who like het on my flist are usually slashers first and hetters second. Then this morning I was friendsfriends surfing and found some J/S shippers' LJs and I read their reviews of some episodes. It's really cool - sounds like we're not watching the same show, not seeing the same characters. I'm not saying one view is better than the others, don't start with me - no, I'm just talking about how different groups of fans look at a same episode.
It's one thing to have different opinions based on the same J/D view, but here it was a whole new world. Just thought it was fun *g* And yes, I'm easily amused *nodnod*
Can you tell I interact with slashers 99.99% of the time?
Oh,
babycakesin, did you know about that? I mean, the exact date? Are we in September yet? *bounces* There are soooooooo many DVDs I want! It's almost too much for my little fangirl's heart *g*
PS: Dennis Christopher, aka Lash in Cypher --TS episode, do I even need to add?-- plays in today's episode of L&O: CI. Still a psycho. Poor guy knows how to play them well lol

Date: 2004-07-16 07:39 am (UTC)No, I didn't know about that DVD set - and no, we're not in September yet - you be patient, will you? But you know, I don't think Star Wars was such a good trilogy... I mean, I'l have to see it again to set up my opinion, cause it's really tricky to make up my mind about Star Wars... And Han Solo... is he really that hot/good looking? See, I need to see it again. To check. ;)

Date: 2004-07-16 09:13 am (UTC)Know what? I think you're right! I mean, it's been such a long time since I saw it, how can I be so sure it's actually the masterpiece everyone says it is? I think I may very well pre-order the set just to make sure no one steals it for me and stops me from checking it out for myself *cough*

Date: 2004-07-16 09:15 am (UTC)you won't stop me from wanting to lick Han Solo's lipsThis might be a good idea, doing ethnological research I meanno subject
Date: 2004-07-16 09:18 am (UTC)Ethnological research, that's it! I already began since I read some shippers' LJs today, keeping the research with this SW thing shouldn't be too hard.

no subject
Date: 2004-07-16 09:45 am (UTC)But yeah, I'll keep the kisses *g*.Nervous breakdowns are good, did you notice people had them a lot on LJ? I don't know your flist at all, of course, so I'm merely asking.
no subject
Date: 2004-07-16 09:52 am (UTC)I meant more "sobbing for a sec out of jealousy" than a 'nervous breakdown comme on dit d'nos jours' - but I'll settle for Han Solo in the meantime *g*

Date: 2004-07-16 08:56 am (UTC)Ooh, anyone cool I should friend? ;) Personally I was shocked when a woman on samandjack said she didn't see the homoerotic in Abyss. Really, wtf?!
I could tell you where the cool S/J people hang. But then I'd have to eat you. And you're not vegetarian omg.
no subject
Date: 2004-07-16 09:15 am (UTC)Don't worry, I'll survive - and yeah, I'm not a vegetarian so you could get sick and we don't want that! Everyone knows slashers love fresh meat *eg*

Date: 2004-07-16 09:22 am (UTC)I was a tad surprised at first at how much I enjoyed it. I mean, I thought I would love L&O:SVU more since a) the story lines just appeal to me very much and b) Chris Meloni plays in it - but as much as I love Meloni as Keller, I can't say I care that much about Stabler, or any other of the cast, so I love L&O:SVU because of the dark theme more than anything - whereas I love L&O:CI so much because the lead characters are so brilliant, and of course the plots are great too *g*
I'm in love with Bobby's brain and I absolutely *adore* Alex *g*

Date: 2004-07-16 03:57 pm (UTC)But anyway...
I do read slash, but pretty much by rec only. I'm not taken by it enough to wade through the bad to get to the good. My expectations for it are fairly stringent.
However, with some definite exceptions, I've pretty much found slash fans to be the funner fans. Funner... is that a word?
You're very right about the different views of the show. Being a multi-shipper, I can tell you that the S/J and S/D shippers see shows completely differently too. It is pretty interesting. I think there's room for everyone.
I promise not to squick y'all out too much with my het-ness! ;)
no subject
Date: 2004-07-16 04:09 pm (UTC)I think I may have been cruising your own flist btw - since I don't know that many hetters, it sure narrows it down.
There's definitely room for anyone, and I wish some people could hear you *eg*
Hey, you won't squick me, too much lol I mean, I knew what I would see when reading your LJ when I friended you in the first place, right? So I'll survive lol Besides, I'm sure you couldn't stop writing about het as much as I couldn't stop talking about slash *snicker*

Date: 2004-07-16 04:28 pm (UTC)I think I'm unusual in that I can't understand why anyone would think that two gorgeous guys together isn't hot. I mean, come on.
Actually, after thinking about it for the past 15 minutes or so, I realize that what I really, really love is the slashy smarm. I love the team smarm especially, but the whole Jack/Daniel, H/C, slashy smarmy stuff... guh!
no subject
Date: 2004-07-16 04:40 pm (UTC)Well technically smarm isn't slash but I see your point *nodnod* I'm an angst junkie myself, and Daniel Whumping was what first attracted in that fandom. To see Jack bring the 'c' part in 'h/c' was just the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen *eg*
J/D combined with h/c is my favourite recipe, without any doubt.

Date: 2004-07-16 08:35 pm (UTC)yeah well, i know a TINY bit about that. i discussed it once with
as for B/J season 4, it's only episode 11 that i was kinda frustrated about. because this isn't the B/J show, it's QaF so they can't get all the screentime themselves. sure, they have less than season 1 and season 2 but that's ok by me, i just had to get over episode 11 and then remind myself that jack has very reduced screen time in season 6 and 7 of stargate sg-1 but that it doesn't matter much.
oh my brian. i am sooo pathetic.
no subject
Date: 2004-07-17 04:43 am (UTC)What gets me though is that people *always* include B/J in their questions, as if it was the only reason why you would like or dislike a season. I was like HELLO other people actually fucking enjoy other characters and pairings, don't we have a say in it too?
I mean the site I'm referring to is supposed to be QAF centric, not B/J centric - but damn they're doing a poor job with that! Oh well, c'est la vie lol

Date: 2004-07-17 06:59 am (UTC)nah it has spoilers through 414 and you know my stance on spoilers...i'll read it after i've seen the finale though!
i go through periods thinking that i only like qaf because of B/J but then i remember how cute emmett is and how much i love debbie's tshirts and realise that i'm wrong. and i love brian-michael too. i won't deny that it's a lot because of BRIAN but yeah, if it was just that, i wouldn't want to watch spiderman 2 just to see hal sparks speak two lines, right?!
no subject
Date: 2004-07-16 09:22 pm (UTC)Praise be to Cher. And RDA. ***love***
Yeah, it is a different show thing, like the fact that we can't figure out what show the Brian/Michael fans are watching, but I'm really glad I'm not seeing it.
no subject
Date: 2004-07-17 04:44 am (UTC)I actually know what show the Brian/Michael fans are watching, and I like to indulge in watching that show sometimes lol Even if yes, I'm a die hard Ben/Michael fan myself.

Date: 2004-07-22 04:00 am (UTC)There's this consensus that seems to imply that QAF is the B/J show and if you watch it, it's just for them, and if you do watch it for another character or heaven forbid another pairing, then you're just a moron who doesn't understand anything.
Obviously it's not the opinon shared by 100% of the BJ/ fans, but it was nice to hear those B/J moderates express themselves and show everyone that all B/J weren't rabid fans who didn't care about others *g*
QAF has enough characters and pairings to satisfy everyone - disersity is the spice of life, and the life of a fandom, after all *g*
