Atlantis is the new black?

We're not really still Monday, are we? Cause I could swear I actually lived Tuesday too!

Boy I'm exhausted! Mucho things were accomplished today - and because I can make a long story short, I'm going to sum it up in very few words. I know it's going to be a shock for those who know me, but sometimes you just have to bit the bullet and do what you have to do, so there, summary : a scare caused by a defective alarm clock and an early rendezvous was had, a friend was seen, a never ending visit to the mall was done, a cousin was brought home, groceries and other stuff were bought, chores were finished and three hours with granddad were spent.

Also, in the midst of today's activities one DVD, ie Spiderman --9€ for a DVD? Try to resist that-- was bought and another one, ie Stargate the movie was offered - thank you mommy for knowing your daughter like you do and for feeling all sorry she's going to stay home instead of going to Crete tomorrow like planned and for trying to cheer her up with SG goodies and you know, succeeding lol She also went as far as surprising me with a dictionary, the very last published one, ie Le Petit Larousse Illustré 100th edition --which is a work of art, really-- because she knows I have a thing for dictionaries and we needed a new one *cough*geek*cough*

How that for a summary, huh? A whole day, from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm in just one tiny paragraph - okay two, but still! I'm really impressed.

I'm now finally home *happy sigh* I'm also downloading 414 and trying not to bounce too hard on my armchair because I don't want to fall off lol I chose not to read any reviews on the episode - I know the major event so I'm not 414!virgin mind you, but I wanted to discover everything else without knowing before hands. The first review I'll read afterward will be ginalin I think, thanks for the heads up btw *g*

Also, PowerArchive died on me last night --one day before I downloaded the season finale, typical-- and refused to let me open my zipped files, in other words all my QAF S4 episodes which pissed me off, as you can imagine. I had to uninstall it but it never wanted to be reinstalled again, so I downloaded a regular winzip program which bores me to death to be honest but hey it actually works so I don't care too much. No way will I let a stubborn and prissy PowerArchive stop me from watching my QAF episodes *determined look*

Now for something different - I was going through my flist and reading some Atlantis talks and I have a question. What is it with Atlantis fans --I use the term loosely here for now btw-- and the characters' names? lol

You first have Sheppard then Shepard, you read another entry and suddenly it's been turned into Shepperd or Sheperd, then it's The One With the Scottish Accent's turn, aka the Scottish Doctor WhatsHisName, or my favourite, the Hobbit Doctor and let's not forget Ford who I see mentioned as Rainbow all of names? lol At first I thought that the poor guy had a Naomi Sandburg wannabe for a mother but as it turns out it seems it's all oceana_'s fault. The thing is, the name seems to be spreading all over my flist so now I'm starting to call him that, which is bad of course lol In particular since I have no idea where the nickname is coming from *g* And also, what's the deal with his hat?

Finally, even though I'm still not impressed with everything that I heard about the premiere so far, I actually hope I'll end up liking Atlantis because it's a 'rising' fandom and it's really fun when you think of it - when you're a kid you wonder where children come from, and when you're a slasher you wonder where fandoms come from. Well this time, we'll know!

Speaking of rising fandoms and the like, I hate Kingdom of Heaven, it'll kill me way before it's being released, and koh_slash_fic is teh evahl! The latest stories posted over there pushed some of my favourite buttons, cursed be this comm. Also RPS? It'll be the death of me. I'm just sayin' *sigh*

The many variations I've seen on the character names - 'Becker' for Beckett, Sheppherd/Sheperd/Shepphard/etc. for Sheppard, 'Tayla' for Teyla, even 'Weyr' for Weir ... it makes me fear for the future of Atlantis fanfic. Fear, I tell you. I'm quaking in my Birkenstocks, here.

Weeeell, sort of. The actual archive isn't up yet, because I struggled for awhile with coding it with cute little dropdown menus and things of that nature before I just gave up on ever mastering DHTML - so I'm just tossing together your average website, now. I'd planned to have it up the day of the premiere, but instead, it should be up by Friday. In the meantime, you already know about the other stuff ... the community and the mailing list.

Both of which are making me a little dizzy, because every time I click back to one of them, another person has joined. Where are these people coming from?

You're lucky because the many variations of Beckett's name actually mean the ones who wrote them remembered his name in the first place lol I have to say I have another nice one for him, from crystalskull, ie The Wee Scottish one. Really cute, methinks *g*
