Remember my little het thing yesterday? Well, I did try the fics and I only have one thing to say: next time a hetter gets on my case for being an evil slasher who hates women and is a misogynist at heart, I'll just point and laugh. I'll also organise a little meeting between a pot and a kettle. Well actually no, I won't since I don't believe in this slash-fandom-is-misogynist crap theory anyway. So, I'll just point and laugh. But. Since generalising is stupid and because, of course, a batch of stories doesn't a fandom/genre make, I'm willing to try again *is so heroic* It's just that I was so not impressed... Then again, a hetter trying slash for the first time and finding the worst stories slash has to offer would also be scared away, so let's not jump to conclusions.

On a different note now, I continued with my Gay Porn watching and finally got to watch some supposedly hardcore ones and it was... disappointing different? No, I'm thinking I need my slave boys to be all pretty and sweet looking to get me interested in what is happening to them to begin with. Big muscled guys? Doesn't work for me. As for the other video which was supposed to be on the darker side of the road... well, it bored me to death, for which I'm blaming Mr Bottom since he was apparently thinking of something else. Thinking of what I don't know, but I'd wager it had something to do with, say, doing his taxes? Or maybe making his grocery list. One of those. And btw, what is with the elevator background music?

Something else that I watched which was beautiful and certainly not disappointing was [livejournal.com profile] wesleysgirl's last vid, the one she premiered at ConneXions based on the movie Priest. I've never heard of that movie until yesterday but wow, I'd love to see it now because the vid was quite enticing *g* She posted a link for a YSI file so I'm not sure if it's still up for grabs, but you may check her post, just in case?

[livejournal.com profile] enigel? I started watching Numb3rs 1x08 and realised the file sucked, ie it's impossible to watch. I tried several codec packages and it's still not working. I hate avil files with the passion of a thousand fiery suns, let me tell you. Anyway, it'll take me some time to solve the problem so no new Numb3rs right now *sigh*

Ooohhh they're airing Once & Again again. Sela Ward! *glassy eyes* It's funny but I find that woman a hundred times more gorgeous at 43 than at 27 [Once & Again v Emerald Point N.A.S., if it rings a bell]. She's one of my tv!girlfriends. I? Like older women too *licks lips*

I've been writing slash and het mixed for years now. Mostly because I like to confuse people who like their stories in neat categories.

I've written whatever feels right and intend on keeping that up. If I ever get to writing again. darnit.

I think I'm just not interested in reading het. I'll keep trying again because I want to find some het that I like, but it's just not my cup of tea so to speak *shrug* Like I'll always take vanilla over chocolate - there's no hidden agenda behind it, it's really just a matter of taste *g*

And do people sometimes write things that don't feel right? Cause why do their write in that case, where is the fun?

I seem to want to write what I'd like to read, and I'd found so little fanfiction that had a mixture of het and slash couples, which seemed a lot more like "real life" to me.
So, I started writing it in Gundam Wing, which has such a large cast of characters, male and female, that you can mix em up anyway you like.

In some fandoms, that obviously doesn't work, such as where the focus is on two characters, mainly.
When the slash pairing is obvious, I go with the flow. I started out writing het though, because the fandom I first was interested in has obvious het pairings.
I'm not much of a smut writer anyway, even when I write sex, I tend to focus on dialog and characterization. LOL I can write two people talking about sex much better than them actually having it, I think.

Writing smut isn't all what it's cracked up to be, I realised *g* And I like your method. Writing two people talking about sex instead of writing them doing it. Good move lol

Gods, your comments about the gay porn cracked me up! *g* The bottom thinking about his grocery list... *snickers*
It reminded me of this silly list on how to become a Smart Assed Masochist.

And I admire your courage and determination in your het quest! That's so brave!

You should have seen him, boring - well, bored. And considering the type of scene he was in, believe me when I say he really should have moved at least a little bit. That sucked all right. Well, yeah it did. What I mean is, it also sucked in a bad way.

Thanks for the link, that list cracked me up lol

It is, isn't it? Thank you for acknowledging my courage and determination *kisses*

I totally sympathize with your gay porn dilemma. Every time I try to watch any of it, I am only forcibly reminded of the differences between women and men. We just want different things. *sigh* But at least we have our slash, right?

I had tons of probs with codecs and such, until I found a wonderful little thing called Crystal Player. Just lemme know, and I'll send it to ya. The file's not huge, and it'll play ANY thing.

I'm thankful for slash cause porn apparently makes me more of a critic than anything else, which isn't supposed to be the point, you know? lol

Ohhh that sounds interesting! I'd love to try it *g* If it's really not that huge a file and you can mail it, could you do it at mouse.a @ gmail.com? Thank you!

Sorry Cas, but gmail won't let me send the attachment file containing the Crystal Player. Are you on YM or something comparable? We could just do a file transfer thru a prog like that. The file is 1.35 MB zipped. Just give me a buzz...

I'd advise you to use either YouSendIt (http://www.yousendit.com/) or YouShareIt (http://s3.youshareit.com/index.php) in that case. Use my LJ account in the recipient's mail and it'll work like a charm *g* That way, we won't have to log in at the same time or YM or anything, I'm having some problem with my messengers today...

Thanks again *g*

It seems the file isn't the problem as such, after all. I have a tons of codecs but I must be missing one, I don't know. Anyway, I burnt the episode on CD and was able to watch it, so it's okay *g*

Thanks for the help!

I only read het if it's by an author I know and trust. And even so, I've been burnt big time by sudden and apparently unknowing attacks of homophobia. But that's okay. Because het is the norm. Yeahsureyoubetcha.

Honestly this whole slashers are misogynists thing just throws me for a big loop every time it comes up. And it does tend to come up over and over again. Though not as frequently in pre-internet days as today.

It's currently a huge topic of conversation in House fandom and I've been trying to control myself from responding to posts that are obviously made by twelve year olds who don't even know the realities of life, let alone sex, in whatever combo you prefer.

The most astounding post in that thread was one that stated quite firmly that the only folks who write slash are lesbian and bisexual women and that the only reason they do that is to imagine themselves between two hot guys. WTF! But of course that's not homophobic, no, not at all.

Okay, end rant. I'm trying to control my blood pressure not make it worse. *g*

As for the Priest video, it was fantastic. Though I'm of the old school that says if a relationship is canon it's not slash. That in no way minimizes the goodness of the vid. In fact, I'm off to order the movie as soon as I post this. ;-)

This whole slash issue bores me to death now... except when it just annoys the hell out of me, mind. I'm so fed up with people claiming that if you're into slash it must mean that you're doing it for deep and confused reasons and it must mean you have a secret agenda, agenda usually meant to destroy women and demean them. What a load of bullshit. Oh I understand that some people do believe in it, that's not the problem, the problem is that usually those people just don't accept that if you like slash it's for no other reason that you like it, period. No sekrit agenda, no deeper meaning. And they'll tell you how dishonest you are not only with them but with yourself and argh! I hate that.

And then there's the whole lesbian/bi-sexual thing you mentioned and PUH-LEASE! Also, you're right, we'd better stop with that thread lol

It's amusing how many people bought or rented the movie after watching the ivd. [livejournal.com profile] wesleysgirl should ask for some payment from the producers lol

I actual still enjoy discussing slash and it's motivations with intelligent fen. The pillorying of slashers and slash as a concept drives me nuts, big time. I want to smack people and tell them to grow up.

I was raised to believe that if we all liked the same things it would be a pretty boring world. That diversity is what makes life interesting. People who can't or won't allow for such differences in opinion drive me wild with incoherent rage. Such shallow minds are a waste of space and time imho. No matter what the subject might be.

Yes, she so should. *bg* It certainly did an excellent job of creating a demand and there's no better form of publicity.

A problem with lot of people is how you'll express a different opinion than theirs and what they'll hear is an insult toward them and their own opinion. Why would they think that? Are they so unsure about what they believe that they can't just accept that a different opinion is just that, a different opinion and it doesn't mean it's an insult and it certainly doesn't mean it's meant to offend them either.

You'll say 'I prefer Jack/Daniel' and the morons will hear 'Your Jack/Sam ship is stupid and you're stupid yourself'. You'll say 'I like slash best' and they'll hear 'Het is boring and we all hate women to begin with'. There's no talking with those people, we apparently don't speak the same language and they keep translating it wrong *shrug*

Exactly! It says more about them as an individual then it does about our taste and that's really a scary thing. I can't ever remember being that fragile a little flower at any age. To imagine putting that much power in a total strangers hands is beyond my comprehension.

That's always my first thought, that it says more about them then it does about our taste. It's also pathetic, but that's fandom for you, it's not always the happy place everyone likes to think it is. Though if one really thinks of it that way, that may be because they're a newbie lol Sad, but true *g*

I think a lot of these fans are very young, either chronilogically or emotionally. It shows in so many ways and it influences their taste and their criticism. I try to cut them some slack, mainly by ignoring them, but sometimes, it's hard to do either.

Do you have GSpot? :D (It's a program, pervs.)

It supposedly identifies what codecs are needed to play an avi file. It's not perfect, but still very useful.
