Bit of RL then fannish talk

Boy, those last two days were... intense. Sitting for a concours is quite the experience. Up at 5.30 am on both days, seven hours of exam on Thursday and five on... damn that was today? Well anyway, five today. Also the concours? Had a thousand candidates... a thousand. I know, I asked - I got tired of trying to count the endless rows. How many will be chosen in the end? Fifteen. Yeah. Oh and we took it at La Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, which definitely rocked. Oh and French Posse, guess what? I saw Danny Boon over there! That amused me.

Anyway.

Changing the subject #1: I finally watched Glorious and damn, I already loved Eddie Izzard with Dress to Kill but this second show finished me - he's so fucking brilliant. He also gave me some new lines I love. So I have a new motto. Well, you know, the motto that isn't a motto but which I decide to turn into one. So now, when the situation will warrant it, I'll go "And now, I'm going to eat all the leaves on this tree", which come to think of it won't exactly be easy to include in a conversation - a normal one, that is - but I already had "My name is Carlos. You make me so hot" and very recently "Also? I can kill you with my brain", both of which aren't that easy to include in a convo either, so I'm following the trend.

Changing the subject #2: I changed my layout... then changed it back to the Jack/Daniel one. But I customised the Other Layout so I may decide to go for it at any time. Only problem is, even with the editing, there's no background, no pics, no nothing and just... I miss having something to ogle look at when I'm checking my LJ. So I'm thinking maybe I should add a header with a mix of all my favourite shows [well, SG, TS, Numb3rs and Lost, that is] but then I remember that a) I don't have the slightest idea how to do those shiny and so pretty headers I see all the time - though okay that wouldn't be a problem per se since I would just beg one of you skilled people to make me one and b) as shiny and pretty those headers are, once you scroll down the page they disappear from view and I'm back to square one, no nothing to ogle look at. So anyway, I'm still trying to decide whether I want the - for now - Pictureless New Layout or keep The Component One *ponders* Also. I just don't like changes *g*

Changing the subject #3: New Numb3rs RPS over at numb3rs_slash. That fandom cracks me up. When it's not dealing with incest, it's dealing with RPS. At least, we never get bored *g*

Changing the subject #4: So I just realised that I received the prompt for ts_ficathons and my first thought was: so.typical. This would have been my third choice of Cliché I Don't Want to Write if there had been three choices instead of two. Should be interesting *nodnod*

Changing the subject #5: Eeeeek cutest thing ever! I'm watching SG atm, "Sacrifices" and the scene in the Stargate Room when Daniel puts his arm on Sam's shoulder and she strokes his hand... man, that was just so incredibly cute *melts* I love it when I'm reminded of how much I love so and so's dynamic *g*

It seems I've hit my squick level. I thought I'd check it out, just to see. (The fandoms I've been reading don't have much - if any - RPS, so I haven't encountered it before.) My disapproval is faint, but there, but it's all theoretical, and sometimes reality knocks down walls, you know?

Nope. Got about three paragraphs down and couldn't go any farther. So, if you ever decide to try your hand at RPS, I won't be able to beta for you. Do any damn thing you want to the *characters*, but my brain just can't wrap around the *people* in those situations.

That's good to know, your limits I mean, though I can tell you I won't ever write RPS. I need to know the characters I write and how could I do that with RPS? So that won't happen.

I read Lotrips so RPS isn't something new to me, though it always seems a tad odd in other fandoms, which in itself is interesting enough. Why does it seem so 'easy' - for me, I mean, not in a general way - in LotR and not as easy with others? Bites me *g* Though it still works, case in point lol

Exactly. That's why I really don't understand RPS. We don't know these people, how they behave in general, and how they behave with that specific other person. So, really, the authors are writing original fiction with the real persons' names tacked on. So, thinks I, why not just write original fiction?

Actually I don't know how to describe the thing since I don't know of the English equivalent... well, I suppose there is an equivalent. Anyway, I'm aiming at a job in a Ministère [Ministry] and to do so one has to take a concours. We don't call those exams for they are not... except they are, just a special kind, obviously. Anyway, many people sit those concours and very few pass - but well, you have to try, right? *g*

Also, I think I'll try to watch Lost this weekend, or if I can't, after Tuesday for sure, since Tuesday is my last oral exams before the Next Session mid-June... I'll tell you, then *g* Then again, you can send them to me now, I'll just wait after I watch the ep to open the mail, this isn't a problem atall *g*

About your new layout -- it's easier to read the posts and comments on your LJ now, but the black type on this dark blue background is a problem. It's particularly difficult to see the date and time a comment was made.

I didn't bother to change the date and time on the comments - it's not that important for me, I'll admit *g* I was quite focused on not messing up with the colours of the different fonts themselves... and I always worry that one code is for everything else so by messing with it, I risk messing with the whole thing, you know *g* There're three codes that are still black, I may try to change one of those later.

Sérieusement, je me fais pas d'illusion. Rien à voir avec une quelconque attaque de peu-d'estime-de-soi mais bon, je crois que cette année ce sera plus pour 'voir comment ça se passe'. Je me rassure en me disant quand même que je n'ai pas rendu copie blanche comme certains des candidats, c'est toujours ça de pris.

I don't read RPS¹ for the same reason you mentioned in your comments - how can you know how someone real would react in any given situation? So different from knowing how the characters would/might react. And for the claim that it's all fictional, hello! we're not writing about the real DB and JM, I'm like, then why bother writing about the fake DM and JM instead of writing about, oh, original characters?!! *shakes head*

hmmmm....I think I like the new layout, although I do miss seeing J/D. I have to agree with aswanargent regarding the dark on dark...even the lighter blue on the deep blue is hard on *my* eyes. For instance...it's hard to read all the links in your Survival Kit.

I'm not writing for ts_ficathons, so I'd love to help you out if you need someone to look over your story. I have beta'd a little for another writer we both know, so I'm here if you need me...or at least I will be after I get back from vacation on June 14th. *G*

Jack and Daniel are gone... I'm still trying to get used to the idea believe you me. This is just... well, I've had them for so long, you know? But maybe I'll ask for the header thing after all. I mean, the layout? I like it as it is after all and there's not a single pic on it, so even if the header disappears, it'll just be the same after all... only not since the header will be there. And hopefully if I find someone to do it for me, I'll gather my favourite shows so I'll have everything rolled up in one neat little header. Yeah anyway...

Je dois aussi t'avouer que j'ai été plutôt occupée donc j'ai pas trop cherché, mais non, toujours pas d'épisode... j'irais peut-être demander à quelqu'un s'ils peuvent me YSI le truc... et le problème - je me rends compte que j'ai toujours pas répondu à ton mail, excuse moi - c'est pas tellement le format non-avi... le dernier épisode de Numb3rs que j'ai téléchargé était un xvid aussi et même si Clark a un peu rechigné à le lire, il a fini par accepter le truc mais ce que j'aimais pas trop dans le fichier en question c'est qu'il avait pas un fichier mais 27 et franchement... c'est bizarre ça. Pourquoi un téléchargement pour un episode aurait vingt-sept fichiers, tu sais? Donc comme j'ai aucune idée de la validité du-dit fichier bah... je m'interroge. Et toi par la même occasion re: mon mail lol

I don't want to be too specific, or give anything away, but another writer is approaching her cliche as if it were literally true, not the understanding we usually attach to it. Like, if told to write the cliche of "letting the cat out of the bag", the story wouldn't be about letting a secret slip out, but a story about an actual cat being let out of a physical bag.

Maybe if you turn your cliche on its ear, so to speak, you might find a muse-spark.

I love every single scene you mentioned here! The shower had me laugh like mad in particular the 'everyone becomes a safe breaker' bit *still laughs just to think of it* And the toaster was good too. Yeah it was pretty difficult. People will tell you that those concours are easy but the only thing I can say here is that obviously they never took one. Or not the kind I took because it was really quite high as high level goes. Most people were thirty and I had to wonder what kind of degree they had with them, you know? One of the girls I talked with was taking the concours for the third time. Don't know if it's making me hope or despair lol
