Star Wars allée voir je suis...
May. 26th, 2005 02:07 am... et dire que j'ai adoré, loin de la vérité ce serait.
OMG Revenge of the Sith rocked my world *gasp* I went to see it because there was no way I would miss an episode of SW, but I wasn't expecting anything from it. The original trilogy is sacred and the new one... not so much, so I just didn't think it would impress me that much, but wow I was so very wrong. And I'm still bouncing because this is SW for me, you know? That's what I missed in the two previous movies - Ep II in particular. But whatever. Ep III rocked my world and that's the only thing that counts *g*
First sequence - totally pulled me in. I was right there. I thought it bode well for the movie, while at the same time being skeptical still because, well, after Ep I and II I was just wary of the whole thing, really. In particular after Ep II *shudder*
And yes there were some scenes that had me roll my eyes and stuff but it just faded away at one point and I didn't care because everything was just so fucking intense and so fucking good! The Bad? I put to the side, not caring at all - which is why I won't mention those here. Like, it's not their place *shakes head* I mean, no I could have. Just chose not to *g*
So yeah, I loved so many things in that movie, wow. Up to Hayden Christensen and really, that's saying something because in Ep II, I thought he had no substance at all - that he was insipid and he bored me to death and I hated the fact that he'd been chosen to play the mythical Darth Vader blah blah blah. But here? It worked. Oh boy did it ever! He made me feel so many emotions - it was one hell of a painful emotional roller coaster and I just needed to publically say it because, well, one needs to be fair *g*
The extermination of the Jedi killed me! Technically I know that I saw more violent scenes - graphically it wasn't violent as such, and well, just in the movie alone, it truly was nothing as far as violence was concerned considering Anakin-Darth Vader's fate later on - but somehow it didn't register because it was one heartbreaking, heartwrenching moment and just, I ached so much then! The betrayal... the betrayal was unbearable, you know? First, you were seeing all those Jedi - not thinking even for a second that they had their future murderers right there in their midst - falling victims to someone's act of treachery one after the other, and then it just paled in comparison to the true betrayal, that of Anakin's and really... the attack on the Temple totally traumatised for ever. The children in particular, as it was meant to do - well, it worked.
Something else that killed me was the fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin, well Darth Vader by then, at the end - the pain and resentment and betrayal. And then Obi-Wan cuts off Anakin's legs and his arm, which is followed by the moment when Anakin gets burnt to-not-death by the lava and just - *shudder* I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Man, that was awful. And Obi-Wan just left and, you know, I confused myself at the time. Cause, did I think he should have tried something? I have no idea, but his leaving Anakin behind in that condition kinda played havoc with my mind.
Most painful train-wreck ever! Well, the whole movie, really.
Speaking of which, each and every scene between Palpatine and Anakin was a joy to see. Which, obviously, reached its climax when Anakin finally takes the decision to follow Palpatine and kneels and calls him Mon Maitre [either 'my Master' or 'Master' - don't know which one was used here]. Damn, that moment - it was of the good. As was the moment when Palpatine gives him his new name. Afterwards, when he gets the armor we all know so well, well it was just the next logical step. I did enjoy it - I mean, of course I did, I was waiting for the moment when the last step would be taken, but somehow I might have liked the other scene best, even.
Changing the subject now:
Yoda ROCKS SO FUCKING MUCH! It's like there's no words to describe how much he does. I love Yoda. I loved him already but I just want to worship him now. Which he would hate so we'll just keep it a secret, shh. But wow. He's so... so brilliant, so wise, so strong, so... just SO! Oh and when he feels the death of the jedi, the gasp, the physical reaction... that broke my heart too.
Obi-Wan broke my heart as well. Feels like my heart got broken a lot tonight - then when it was in pieces, those were shattered too. One after the other.
I missed Padme. I mean, she was there... but not. I just miss the kick-ass girl we had before but when you're pregnant you can't really save the galaxy, so I get that. Doesn't change the fact that I missed her somehow. And I quite liked the Ophelia-like!Padme at the end, in her coffin. Beautiful picture, that one.
Loved Bail Organa, too. A lot!
What I loved so much too was how everything has come full circle - like we finally had that sense of closure. From the big thing to the small details. It was really impressive. And somehow the moment that really did it for me was when Padme gave birth to Luke and Leia and she gave them their names. I don't know why but it really resonated with me. It was like the old trilogy had just clicked with the new one. I mean, technically it already had before - it was like a succession of details/scenes/characters that were linked to the original trilogy and after all we'd reached the climax with Darth Vader coming to life but with the birth of the twin, it really, I don't know, clicked. I fucking loved that moment *g*
Oh and this has nothing to do with the rest but I think it's the first time that while watching the French version of a movie I actually ended up enjoying the whole vouvoiement v tutoiement thing because it gave me a feeling I wouldn't have gotten in English. So. Anakin says 'vous' to Obi-Wan all the time - he's his padawan, that's what padawans do, it's a sign of respect and a way to show your place. Which is why when Anakin used 'tu' to address Obi-Wan when they're about to start fighting at the end, on the Volcano From Hell Planet, it certainly gave a new intensity to the scene. The meaning behind it was really powerful - so I definitely loved it *g*
I'm forgetting tons of things but that's the problem with a movie seen in theater, you can't watch it again right away to check the details. But I plan on seeing it another timebefore having it burnt for me, cause I need something while waiting for the DVD because yeah, I loved it that much *g*

Date: 2005-05-26 12:21 am (UTC)This is very interesting. I'm going to be very curious to see how it's done in English. Tone of voice? Something more than just the word "you"?
Btw, you shouldn't be bouncing unless you're wearing your ... well follow the link in my comment to your last post and you'll see.
I'm getting ready to leave the office in a few minutes. Have to be home by 20h00 for Lost. Oh, there's also a Lost question for you in that last comment of mine.
Talk to you tomorrow, I'm sure.

Date: 2005-05-26 12:49 am (UTC)That's exactly what I wondered afterwards. I'm curious to see how they did it - if they even did anything. Maybe there's nothing more happening in the English version.
You intrigue me now lol I'll have to check that link! Oh and there's a Lost question, too? Well okay, I really need to read my comments *g* Will have to wait until tomorrow though - well, later today, that is - cause it's almost 3.00 and I'm finally getting a tad sleepy *g*
Happy Lost watching *kisses*

Date: 2005-05-26 12:38 am (UTC)Thinking about it right now, I think I would have kept Anakin saying vous to Obi-wan right until the end, and only switched to tu when he yells "I hate you", but I'm not sure it would work this way...
Anyway, glad you enjoyed it !

Date: 2005-05-26 12:45 am (UTC)Oh and your icon? I thought it was cool before I watched the movie, but now I just adore it! Did you snag it somewhere? If you did, where was it?

Date: 2005-05-26 12:58 am (UTC)Anyway, I understand, I wouldn't coerce my... guess that would be "FIL" then, to see it in English either if I went with him. And we're lucky to have generally good dubbed versions in France.
Wah, I want to see it a fourth time ! (yeah... Thanks UGC illimité)
Oh, and I made the icon avec mes petits doigts ! (Well avec Photoshop but still !) I just *loved* that short moment when they both thought of the same move at the same time. It seems so natural that they would share a lot of fighting patterns... It makes me happy and sad at the same time. *sob*

What I loved so much too was how everything has come full circle
That's what I loved about it too... it was quite emotional.
I actually ended up enjoying the whole vouvoiement v tutoiement thing
Oh, that does make the whole scene more poignant ^_^! I also adored the bit where Obi-Wan shouts at Anakin that Ani was his brother and that he loved him.

Date: 2005-05-26 02:08 pm (UTC)The whole scene was poignant... heartbreaking! They hurt so much. Damn. It was awesome *g*
Great review!
Date: 2005-05-28 09:23 am (UTC)Same here. This and the 'You were the Chosen One!' dialogue. I was almost crying.
I loved all the hints of what's gonna happen, too, and the one character I was very exciting to see was Chewbacca!
Thanks!
Date: 2005-05-28 10:20 am (UTC)The hints were so cool! And this is also why I still think it's best to watch the original trilogy before this one. I truly think you lose a lot of things if you actually watch it in 'chronological' order. The sense of foreshadow is what makes the new trilogy so intense... and yeah Chewbacca! That was awesome too - I was like, Wait wait, is that Chewie? He looks Chewie, it's him, isn't it? YAY it's him! And I also loved when I heard the name of Bail Organa. I don't remember if we saw him before or what but when I heard his name I squeed a little because I knew he would be the one to take Leia and just... man, I loved the whole thing, really lol

Date: 2005-06-03 11:01 pm (UTC)Ahh, you can say that again...
Even though we knew what was going to happen, it was so painful nonetheless ;)
