Top Five pt2
Jul. 23rd, 2005 12:35 pmMy "Avalon" pt2 file is downloading slowly and I'm debating whether to click on the spoiler cuts or not, which amuses me to no end because I clearly remember the entry I posted last week in which I was talking about how I never went spoiler-free for that series and had no intention of starting now so give me the spoilers already. But since I found a new love for that season - and considering I never fell out of love with SG, it's saying something - I'm thinking it would be fun to get into each new episode relatively spoiler free. So I think I'll try that for awhile. See how it works out *is determined... sorta*
Anyway, back to my Top Five meme, which was a load of fun, really - sometimes those meme are just brilliant.
babycakesin - Top Five Charlie Moments
I know I could have done both, ie Eppes and Pace, either at the same time or in separate lists, but I chose to pick Charlie Eppes only because it's been some time since I talked about Numb3rs, so there:
1- In the pilot when he consults with the FBI for the first time. I love it because it's the first time we see him do his magic in front of the boys and girls. Most of the agents are skeptical but Charlie does his thing without being bothered. He looks so sweet and so smart and all. Incidentally, I also love that scene because of Don's little smile when his brother is showing the guys who's the genius in the room *g* Don looks so proud at this moment, and amused too, and it's of the good.
2- The confrontation with Don in "Uncertainty Principle". And come to think of it, would it be cheating if I said that "Uncertainty Principle" is one of my favourite Charlie moments overall? *cough*
3- The chess scene in "Manhunt" - so cute and adorable that I thought I might never recover! Where are the health warnings when you need them!
4- The teaching scene in "Manhunt" again. I was looking forward to seeing Charlie in his natural habitat and I certainly got my wish. It was brilliant and then some. He looked so at ease, so confident... perfect *g* And the fact that daddy!Eppes and Don were watching is just a wonderful bonus *nodnod*
5- The very last scene in "Counterfeit Reality" when he comes to Don's apartment. How sad he is when Don throws their differences to his face, and his relief and joy when Don immediately amends what he just said - acknowledging how good they are together now - and offers him to stay. That scene was heartbreaking and beautiful and sweet all rolled up into one *g*
babycakesin - Top Five Poltergeist: The Legacy Moments
Dunno if you were joking or not when you flowed me with those Top Five, honey, but here it goes. Also, don't think it'll come as a surprise, but you might detect a pattern in the scenes I picked. Let's see if you can decipher which one *cough*
1- In the pilot, the moment when Nick and Derek find Julia's body in the corn field - or whatever field it was: Nick falls on his knees and screams and he looks so fucking devastated. He suddenly leans against Derek, who's standing close to him, and let his head rest on the older man's thigh, at this moment Derek brushes a hand against Nick's face and just... see, I don't like Derek. At all, but right this moment? I did. My poor Nick *sob*
2- The scene in "Sins of the Father" when Nick reveals to a dismayed Derek that Nick's father - who was a friend of Derek's and belonged to the Legacy - beat him and his mother when Nick was a kid. Nick's lines? I have them memorised, I don't know why. Then again, it might be because I have watched it so many times? Yeah. He looked so sad and angry and disappointed and insecure and omg my poor Nick! *re-sob*
3- At the end of "Black Widow" when he confronts succubus!Karen. He knows he's going to lose her - read, kill her - and lose the comfort and the love he thought he'd found again. His face when Karen - who goes as far as take Julia's face at that moment, which was so fucking cruel, btw - disappears in the water after Nick followed the plan to the letter is downright painful.
4- His first meeting with Sloan in "The New Guard". It's more a confrontation than a real meeting, I'd say. He looks defiant, bratty, discontent, insecure and angry... and also ready to kill someone, preferably Sloan, only he can't because the man is his new superior and he has tosubmit follow the rules and be a good boy good colleague.
5- And to break the pattern only not completely if you remember that I dislike Derek immensely: the ending of "The Beast Within".
babycakesin - Top Five candies
1- DRAGIBUS! Or, you know, dragibus *g*
2- Kinder
3- Carambar
3- Les bandes acidulées - je me souviens jamais du nom, au coca ou à la pomme, là, tu sais?
5- Sucette au chewing-gum, à la pomme
babycakesin - Top Five TS moments
See answers here.
babycakesin - Top Five Daniel Jackson moments
1- Daniel in the padded room in "Legacy". Breaks my heart each time.
2- Moment in "The Other Side" when Jack tells him to shut up. Because I know Daniel is right and I know Jack is being a jerk and because that whole episode is one of my favourites, so there.
3- In "Forever in a Day" when he sees Sha're's body in the morgue. So okay right at this moment, it's a ribbon induced hallucination, but it's still real for him and his face... breaks my heart too!
4- In "There But for the Grace of God", when he meets AU!team. He's hyper and all, trying to find out what the hell happened and then trying to make everyone believe him and I adore him in that episodeas in pretty much all episodes, granted.
5- In "Fallen" when he's in the blue robe... because there are tons of meaningful moments I could have chosen but I can't fucking resist the blue robe so this is the one I'm picking here *dies*
babycakesin - Top Five Internet-Related Memories
1- My different meetings with people from the flist. I mean, technically it's an internet-related memories because without internet, I wouldn't have met them.
2- When I discovered what slash was, I guess *g* That's one hell of a internet-related memory, all right - I dare say, quite a defining moment, even *nodnod*
3- When I stumbled upon the 852 Prospect archive. My first search over there was a basic J/B one and the search gave me something like three thousands stories... I thought I'd died and went straight to heaven lol
4- The first time I wrote, finished and posted a fanfic on-line - mind-blowing experience in a way.
5- And because if you seriously think I wasn't going to add that one, then you were delusional *cough* When I found out you'd created your own LJ without telling me and it gave me the push I needed to create my own... I mean, two years later the love is still there *clings to LJ*
enigel - Top Five Stargate Episodes
1 &2- Okay, I loved "Scorched Earth" and "The Other Side" so much because Daniel was just Daniel to the core: stubborn and driven, smart and compassionate, ready to go to town to at least try to do the right thing - just how I like him *g*
"The Other Side", he tries to see beyond what has been put in front of him. He refuses to take things at face's value, and in this case, refuses to act before he knows both sides of the story concerning the war SG1 had just jumped into - a war they know nothing about apart from what the Urondans told them. He believes something is wrong, and that SG1 should try to at least learn more about the origins of that war, the motivations and in particular to learn more about both camps instead of just taking side with the only one they met. He's alone in his belief, and what I loved in that episode is the fact that he still keep trying and doesn't give up. He doesn't cave in to Hammond, or Jack or anyone else.
"Scorched Earth" has a plot that is a little similar. Once again, Daniel is alone in the belief that there is another way to deal with the problem SG1 is facing and he's the one who fights for it. He doesn't believe one civilization should be sacrificed to another or that using violence to deal with the problem is the solution. He's going to use his best weapons to save everyone, ie his words and his empathy. He's actually going to make Lotan think about the consequences of his actions, and make him feel things instead of just doing what he's been programmed for. Once again, Daniel is facing everyone else, but doesn't give up.
3- "Legacy", if I loved it so much, it's because it's pure Daniel Angst! It's an angst fest, and MS is brilliant in that one! Daniel is so vulnerable, you just want to cuddle him and hold him close to you. Another thing that I liked in that episode is the fact that Daniel finds the solution in the end - I love my genius boys *beaming*
4- "The Light", because of the balcony scene and the my-best-friend-is-dying thing and the Jack-carries-Daniel-over-his-shoulder thing and hey, sometimes you don't need anything more than that to enjoy an episode, you know *g*
5- "Absolute Power" because if the world had to be ruled by someone, it might as well be Daniel, really.
6- So I'm adding a sixth episode, so sue me *sticks tongue* There's actually a lot of episodes I could list but I'm going to include"Avalon" last because though I never lost my love for Stargate, that episode sorta made me fall in love with it all over anyway - and because it's the beginning of a new era... or something.
*sneaks a peek at download rate* Yeah, I think it's safe to say I'll watch the episode only after I return home. Well, it's okay, I'll have something more to look forward to today *g*
*off to read flist without clicking on the SG cuts*
ETA: Am I being haunted with P:TL or what? There'sNick Boyle Martin Cummins in today's episode of Jake 2.0.
Anyway, back to my Top Five meme, which was a load of fun, really - sometimes those meme are just brilliant.

I missed your Numb3rs posts so I'm glad you picked the Eppes Charlie for the top five :D I think your list is pretty close to what mine would be... :>

I'm waiting for you to tag yourself with the Top Five so that I can play, so yeah, you should do it, selfish person!
I missed my Numb3rs post too lol So this made it all better *g* I had the feeling our list would be pretty much similar *g*

Date: 2005-07-23 05:42 pm (UTC)2- The confrontation with Don in "Uncertainty Principle". And come to think of it, would it be cheating if I said that "Uncertainty Principle" is one of my favourite Charlie moments overall? *cough*
Even before I hit the cut tag, that was my thought – is it possible to count an entire episode? Although I can pinpoint the exact moment when I thought, "Whoa, this show/relationship/performance is going to be way more than I thought it was going to be," that slightly overcranked Charlie POV shot swerving around to the moment immortalized in this lovely Justabi icon...
3- The chess scene in "Manhunt" - so cute and adorable that I thought I might never recover! Where are the health warnings when you need them!
I am so surprised that this made the list. ::twinkle::
And sub #1 Incidentally, I also love that scene because of Don's little smile when his brother is showing the guys who's the genius in the room *g* Don looks so proud at this moment, and amused too, and it's of the good
Awww. Aren't they cute? It is very nice - and unusual in TVLand – that Don can be proud of baby bro even if he sometimes wants to tie a knot in him. None of that black-and-white sibling rivalry thing for them. Although I did also love the look of "Oh, no, Charlie, don't!" when Charlie saw the lottery ticket in the boss's pocket.

I'm so discreete with my love for that scene, aren't I? *giggles*
The Don-Charlie dynamic is complex and just a joy to follow. I'm quite grateful someone thought of creating that series lol Can't wait for S2 *is impatient*

Most definitely. My favorite episode, and right up there with Due South "Victoria's Secret/Letting Go/North" and Lost "Walkabout" as great TV episodes ever. It may not be as well written, strictly speaking, as those, but they (especially David Krumholtz) act the socks off it.
"that slightly overcranked Charlie POV shot swerving around to the moment immortalized in this lovely Justabi icon"
*nodnod* That particular scene was quite intense.
And quite cinematic. I was surprised to see someone overcranking on television!!

Me too, and I'm trying to suck in as many people as possible during the summer. So far, I've tried 4 friends (in 3 different countries); 2 are seriously hooked (do I get extra points for also reeling in a husband?), one is teetering on the edge of being totally hooked and is slightly resisting for reasons of time and sanity, and the fourth is eagerly waiting her DVDs.

Date: 2005-07-23 08:06 pm (UTC)Ohh you have great taste! "Victoria's Secret" gives me shivers just to think about it, it's an episode that really resonated with me, it was so good. Incidentally, it also made me discover Sarah McLachlan so yeah, good all the way *g*
I sent someone who'd never seen the show to your screencaps of that scene, and she is now awaiting the DVDs I'm sending her...
Aww that's so sweet, and quite cunning too cause between you and me? We're going to convert the whole planet *evil laughter*
*clears throat* Sorry.
Btw, you totally get extra points for also reeling in a husband *nodnod*

Date: 2005-07-24 12:01 am (UTC)Why thank you! (If it helps, imagine it in the inflection of the Manure Guy from "They Eat Horses, Don't They?", which is one of the funniest line readings ever for something so simple.
"Victoria's Secret" gives me shivers just to think about it, it's an episode that really resonated with me, it was so good.
It truly is an amazing piece of writing, the way the first half gives you so many little plot points (like the soap, Ray's party) that set up all the revelations of betrayal after betrayal in part two. And "Hey, Benny...not in your lifetime." ::heartbreaks::
Despite their differences, I do see a lot of similarities in the relationships betweeen Benny and Ray V and Charlie and Don. Hence, I have two fandoms...two.
Top Five
Date: 2005-07-23 10:19 pm (UTC)a) Charlie (Eppes, apparently - wasn't I nice to let you pick your Charlie?) lol I love all those scenes - and the last one, the last scene of Counterfeit reality, with Don? I totally adore it *beams*
b) Poltergeist... well no I wasn't kidding with all those top 5, I really wanted the answer. That one was euh... a private joke kinda top 5 lol Yeah, I kinda saw a pattern - and a hidden message that you're a massive Derek Raines fan? *ducks for cover*
c) Dragibus! *high fives* which color *g*
d) the breakfast scene! I just love that one *g*
e) Legacy? every time I think about that scene my heart breaks for Daniel *bottom lip quiver*
f) aaaah 852 Prospect archive... man do I remember you talking about it a LOT lol (as for the fifth one... are you EVER going to let go or is it something we'll tell our grandkids?)
as for being haunted by P:TL: as long as it's not Derek...
Re: Top Five
Date: 2005-07-24 11:15 am (UTC)a) I saw that the last scene of "Counterfeit Reality" was listed in your own Top Five Don moments *g*
b) Private joke, that's pretty much what it was, and why I had quite fun here lol
f) And you never killed me for rambling about the discovery, you're so kind *hugs* As for the fifth, no I won't EVER let go. It's something our grandkids will tell their grandkids!
