Fannish Friday 5
Oct. 25th, 2003 01:06 amI saw the Friday5 going around a lot, but it never really attracted me until I discovered
fannish5. I mean, *that* is a meme that speaks to me *g*
I know I'm late in responding to it, but we must still be Friday somewhere, so technically, I'm not late.
Also, since the meme turned out being muchlonger than I planned it to be - but seriously, what did you expect when one of the questions is about our favorite television character? Can someone spell Daniel Jackson? Well I can - I hid it under a cut tag - no need to thank me, it was my pleasure *bows to them*
1. Who is your favorite animated character? Why?
Tough question to start with. I love a lot of animated characters, from Bender and Captain Brannigan (Futurama), to Daria and Trent (Daria) or Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story), you know? Being a huge fan of animes though, I would check among my anime characters... so, uh... I think I would have to choose between two: Shion (Please Save my Earth) and Tsuzuki (Yami No Matsuei).
Okay, so let's say I pick Tsuzuki.
Why? Because I love tortured and haunted characters. They must appeal to the darkest side of my soul or something [/drama queen] but I'm attracted to them like you wouldn't believe. He's one of those tragic characters you can't help but love - IMHO, of course lol I like my characters to be strong, but I'm more addicted to inner strength than physical one, and Tsuzuki is exactly like this. He's one of the most powerful Shinigami, so his strength is mental and spiritual more than anything. He also has a gentle soul, and feels things sodeeply. He has a dark past, and has to carry the burden of it. I love him because I think he's really interesting, is really loveable, and because - to make a long story short - I think he's a very beautiful person, inside as much as outside.
Now the slasher in me couldn't shut up, so she wanted to add that Tsuzuki is also real easy to slash, and with just about every male in the anime, which is kinda interesting when you're into slash (or yaoi in that case), which I'm definitely am *g*
2. Who is your favorite television character? Why?
Hurray! I'm going to be able to talk about Daniel! *high fives question 2*
First, I have to precise that I have several characters that I really love, almost as much as Daniel. There're Samuel Beckett (Quantum Leap), Jarod (The Pretender) and Blair (The Sentinel). I also have tons of other characters that I really like, but those ones are really dear to my heart.
Of course, everyone knowing me just a little bit knows that my favorite tv character is Dr Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1).
Daniel, how much I love thee, let me count the ways. I'm not the organised type, but for Daniel's sake, I can be, so I would divide the reasons of my adoring Daniel Jackson into two categories : a) the shallow reason, and b) the not-shallow one.
a) I think when it comes down to it, Daniel just has all the qualities that I like in a character. It's funny cos in RL, physical appearance isn't that important to me. But on tv? When a character is as gorgeous (and I was kinda thinking pretty as well as far as Daniel is concerned) as he is, I'm really a happy camper. And Daniel is just one of the most gorgeous men existing! No really! One day, I'll reincarnate myself, and this time around I'll be a straight girl - and then, I'll hunt his new incarnation (who incidentally will be a straight man btw) and we'll have wild hot and dirty monkey sex - the spacemonkey kind, even. Not only is he gorgeous but he's also cute as a button most of the time. I mean you can be gorgeous and be the stern and stoic type, but Daniel is just so adorable! *happy sigh*
That was the shallow reason. I can be shallow like the next girl, ya know? Now, for some deeper reasons.
b) You have to know that I have a thing for geniuses. I can't resist a smart character *points at previous list of favorite tv characters above*, and Daniel is just mind-blowingly intelligent, is that clear enough? He has my favorite kind of intelligence too, the intuitive kind. Those men and women who think so far out of the box that they don't even know said box even exists, that's Daniel for you. He's also one strong of a character, and here again, it's more a mental strength than a real one. I mean, he's no wimp, he's fighting against ugly aliens after all, but let's be honest here, he's not Teal'c nor Jim (The Sentinel) either. He survived trauma after trauma from the age of 8 until now, and was able to keep his compassion and his gentleness, and that's being real strong in my books. He's compassionate, and always wants to think there's another solution than violence and hatred. He's one of the most open-minded characters ever, and is, like Jack said so himself, the Conscience of SG-1. He's one stubborn son of a bitch, too, and I like him for that as well. When he believes in something, well good luck to make him change his mind! If he thinks he's doing the right thing, you won't make him take another path than the one he decided to take, and I respect him for that. He's loyal and a wonderful man to have at your sides. He's forgiving and just so gentle, but he also has a dark side in him that I find interesting. Just try to see him face one of those System Lords, and you can kiss goodbye the sweet natured Daniel. As I said, he's no wimp and he's one stubborn son of a bitch, and he won't bow to them. You go, Daniel!
I might forget things, but here some of the reasons why I love Daniel Jackson so much *g* And since the slasher in me is yelling even louder than before, let's also add that Daniel and Jack's love story is absolutely beautiful to see, and even if their love isn't officially canon, well, let's also say that the Production never succeeded in convincing me that those two weren't doing it any chance they got! *eg*
3. Who is your favorite (no longer in production) televison character? Why?
I think I'll head down memory lane here, and answer Captain James T Kirk (Start Trek: TOS, do I even need to add?). Because, see, Captain Kirk was my childhood hero *g* The show was first aired in France in 1986 (and no need to tell me how late it was), I was six at the time, and I just fell for this Captain immediately. I wanted to be just like him! *g* I wanted my spaceship, and I wanted to be as brave ans as smart as he was, and I wanted to have the same friends as he had. I couldn't get enough of Jim with Spock and McCoy. You could say I started to create my 'character standards' based on him, I mean, I thought he was good looking, he was damn smart, and brave and strong. He was everything. He also made me laugh a lot, well I just loved him *g* I remember that I talked about him to my mother all the time lol
4. Who is your favorite television ensemble cast? Why? (If you don't have one/want to imagine the possibilities, assemble one and explain your choices and the fandoms they are from).
There're enough tv ensemble cast to choose from. Hmm, which one? I really like the Scooby Gang, and I'm talking about Buffy here *g* But I guess, here again the Gater in me will choose SG1. The reason why is going to be short this time. I just love the interactions between them. They look so good together. Seeing them interact with each other is a sight to behold. And hey, they're saving Earth and the galaxy on a regular basis, so they kinda grow on you, know what I mean? lol
5. Who is your favorite movie character? Why?
I guess some lj-users are going to have a blast replying to that one, and I can already hear the 'Jack Sparrow' squeed all over the place, but I don't really know who to choose. I mean, the first name that popped into my head was Morpheus (Matrix) because he's so noble and he's so classy, and when he talks I just want to worship him and I would follow him everywhere too, but is he my favorite character? I don't know... I think I'll let the night pass and come back to that question later lol. I'm getting kinda tired, and soon English will escape me! *g*
Wow, there's definitely something to say about Fannish memes! *g*

Date: 2003-10-25 09:40 am (UTC)I loved your answers for Danny, some made me feel all sappy and some made me lol. Hot spacemonkey sex anyone *g* The Scooby gang made me lol too, were you worried people would think you meant Shaggy, Fred etc lol.
Also, I keep saying this, but considering what a big trekkie I am, I just don't like Kirk. He's not a patch on Picard, Sisko, Archer and Captain Kate!

Date: 2003-10-25 11:47 am (UTC)Can't really compare. The only ST I ever watched were the Original Series and Voyager- and even though Janeway was one strong of a captain, I never really liked her. But I think it's because I can't stand hearing her voice, and I can't stand listening to her way of talking. I always feel like strangling her each time she opens her mouth! lol
