Another one those days when all of your plans get cancelled. First my class - which er, I'm not exactly complaining about - and my going to the movies with The Best Friend Rissy. Thing is, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of The Wereabbit is only showing in English at 18h20 at Bercy Village, which was too late for her so we'll go on Saturday.

So I'll be home today it seems - and hey, I'm thinking the timing might not be so bad as what seems to be a long and meaty Gunn/Wesley fic has been recc'ed over at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van - I'm just one paragraph into it and I'm hooked. [livejournal.com profile] elgrey, if you're reading this? I don't know whether you already know of that story but it looks promising - I also find the AU interesting as it's set in the Birthday verse. Anyway, I'm linking the story here in case someone wanna give it a try :-)

Hey I'm finally up to date with Supernatural as I watched "Hook Man".

My first observation is but are those people nuts? Since when do you leave the safety of your car to investigate a freaky noise that comes from the dark in the middle of nowhere - dude! First all those girls do the Bloody Mary thing - yes, I'm still traumatised over that one - and now Soon To Be Dead Boy does this? No, just no. You need to remember all the urban legends you ever heard in your young life and act accordingly, namely you do the cowardly smart thing and you stay in the car! Even smarter yet, you get the hell out of here. If you break all the rules, no wonder you'll get killed, man - sorry but don't expect my sympathy. And hey, see how cool you look suspended up side down from a bridge? Yeah *is mean*

I felt sorry for Lori's roomie though cause she hadn't done anything. Except - well, I guess if we follow another rule of horror movies, you're a good candidate for violent murder when you like to sleep around and have fun. So I suppose she did break a rule - but it's a stupid one, it shouldn't count.

Only it did of course, so bye-bye Hot Roomie. And speaking of Hot Roomie. I love how it seems that a man having an affair with a married woman is put on the same level of Evil as a girl trying to make her friend "look like a party girl" and therefore provokes the same punishment. I love that explanation even better considering all the girl ever did was lend a sexy shirt to her friend, when aforementioned friend was already wearing a very short skirt to begin with. Because yeah, that totally makes sense - and it's so very fair too *rolls eyes*

A little detail now. At the party, when Dean goes "I'm gonna see if I can find that marked grave" - or whatever he says - did you see his face? Priceless lol Poor guy, wanting to have fun with party girls and being obligated to do his duty first *g* His facial expression was the cutest thing and though he didn't say it, you could hear his whiny "maan", the one he uses each time he can't get his way lol Love it *g*

Speaking of Dean. Considering this episode is supposed to happen after "Skin", I couldn't believe they wouldn't be in deep trouble after being arrested by the sheriff. I mean, sure Dean lied through his teeth and all but still, it just seems odd now. But I think I heard that "Hook Man" was supposed to come after the pilot or something like that? Cause in that case, it would explain it a little. Maybe. I just have trouble with the whole Dean Winchester is now officially dead thing - it should give birth to so many issues, and yet nothing happens.

Finally, a general observation... Don't think I'm getting bored with Supernatural because I'm so not but I might be ready for them to change the pace, break the pattern. I was the one telling [livejournal.com profile] hearsawho that we probably needed more than seven episodes before we got an arc-ey episode - I mean, we haven't even reached half of the half-season so okay, I concede that it is early but still... I long for something different now. But I'm patient so I'll just wait. It's bound to happen - soon? *g*

Unrelated now - well more or less - what's the point of a sorority/fraternity? What do they do exactly and who pays for those huge houses they seem to live in? And do they have IRL the pretty bad reputation they always have in movies?

PS: I meant to ask yesterday but I forgot. Please tell me I'm not crazy and the little box "Insert Image" wasn't here before? Please?

The insert image thing is new, it arrived yesterday I think. At least that's when I saw it first.

Oh man, dude. I hate hooks with a passion, that noise and the scratching and the hook I was a quivering wreck when all that was going on. There's something so nasty about them, they're mean and look it and they snag into flesh and just....no.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the ep, especially Dean digging up the grave, but the hook. GAH!

A nice plotty arc would be cool I agree. Who knows, maybe Sam's visions are a hint of an arc to come? *shrugs* Or a nice arc where the brothers realise that spending all that time together leads to porny thoughts and there's touching and angst as they work out their feelings. Well, it could happen! *g*

So I'm not crazy! Thanks lol Yesterday when I updated I was blinking owlishly at the little box and thinking god is that new? Cause it's new to me, is it??

Hooks are EVIL! Which yeah, was proved once again lol But hooks! They're so mean and threatening and fear inducing and yes the scratching noise only would break me *dies*

Hey I read some spoilers - scanned them that is, and there're two episodes that sounded quite nice so I'll be waiting for them *bounces*

Or a nice arc where the brothers realise that spending all that time together leads to porny thoughts and there's touching and angst as they work out their feelings

It could totally happen!

Heeee! Dean! He was so sweet indeed. That face made me laugh, which considering that I was cowering under the bed covers at that point was a good thing.

The thing about Supernatural that I love is... it's really really not a good show in terms of writing and cinematography, etc... But I adooooore it because well... it's scary as hell, first, and the brothers are just plain hot. *nods* And I'm not talking in the sense that they're slashy because they're brothers and incest is a total squick to me, but they are very hot men.

I also long for an Arc ep, but yeah, it might be a bit early, I don't know. As long as they keep the eps more to the level of the hook one and the bloody Mary one, it's ok. I just hope we don't get too many more like Skin, lol.

As much as it pains me to say so, I have to admit that yeah, Supernatural isn't that good a show.

And right now, it's following the exact same pattern, with almost no alteration from one episode to another and - well it certainly works, so it's not as if I was complaining but a plotty episode? Or an episode focused on the Winchester family or something wouldn't be amiss.

I know it's coming, I'm just impatient :-) At the same time no, I am patient, I'll wait however long we have to.

I would really like some character development. We got pretty guys. We got creepy storylines. How about a little depth. Otherwise this is going the way of Smallville with crappy freak of the week stories that are meaningless.

The problem with everyone who died in the hook man episode (and every other episode -- with possible exception of mom and jess) is that we don't care. We never get any kind of attachment. There is no depth. Just a bunch of pretty faces getting killed off. There is no investment.

From: [identity profile] castalie.livejournal.com
A little depth would be nice. I mean, we know they can do it - I'm still in love with the revelations shapeshifter!Dean made.

They have quite a lot of good material to work with, after all. Hopefully it really is only a matter of time before we get those meaty episodes.

Definitely the best episode to date and it's BECAUSE of the revelations of the shape shifter about Dean. Even if they were lies or manipulations to mess with Sam, at least we got some freakin' bg info.

The one with the 'insert' and the sororities

From: [identity profile] babycakesin.livejournal.com
no, it's not you: the insert image thingy *is* new (so is the 'my LJ' thing) and I'm staying the hell away from it... pour le moment.

now, sororities and fraternities: according to my second roommate in Texas, it's just 'paying to have friends' - because yes, they have to pay to be in sororities/fraternities. And then alumnis make donations so their former sorority/fraternity, and some of them are nationwide... it's just belonging to a club - except that instead of wearing Spock ears, they wear greek letters.

I'm loving the LJ Portal - shiny things all in the same place, wheee!

They have to pay to be in those? Or, like, just pay for the rent and stuff? And I love communities but I'm not sure I would have loved to belong to one of those sororities - though from we usually see in movies, I'm not sure I would have interested them anyway ;-)

And what they do exactly?

Re: The one with the 'insert' and the sororities

Date: 2005-11-02 08:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] babycakesin.livejournal.com
nope, according to what Roommate Number 2 explained to me, they have to pay to be in the sorority/fraternity (on top of university fees, food and rent). Basically, what I was told was that they help the new students adapt to the university environment, they help them cheat study, they organize parties together... it's basically paying to have some friends and feel like you belong somewhere - because usually, alumnis of sororities/fraternities help each others find jobs afterward. Stuff like that.

Okay. Well I guess if you really are without friends and feel lonely it's a good solution? Well, if you have no friends, feel lonely but have money apparently...

yup, that's about it... it's a really weird concept, those sororities/fraternities... oh, and I might add that my roommate had been in a sorority and therefore knew what she was talking about lol

it's really not my thing. I would have joined other clubs, but not those sororities I think (then again, I'm not sure I would have interested them either *giggles*)
