Putting up the mark.
Nov. 17th, 2005 04:21 pmSo. I had to start somewhere and as odd as it might sound since hi! Serenity is mine now, I didn't start with that one. Nor did I pick Space Above and Beyond. I went for the novelty, namely Hustle. Dude! That show is brilliant! I really had no idea. I'm going to worship
I'm really digging the characters. The team as a whole is a joy to follow. I love the cons, love how smart and sophisticated they are - or appear to be, at least - but would it be so fun if it was another team? I have no idea. Which I know is a moot point anyway since there is no other team, but whatever.
So let's start with Mickey. The man kinda freaked me out a bit at first, ie I already thought he was a great character but he seemed so cool, so in control that he was bit intimidating, maybe. Then "Faking It" happened, more precisely the scene where Danny gets shot and suddenly Mickey wasn't so intimidating. Or okay, yes he still was - is - but he showed me that he really cared for his crew and that he could show real emotions and stuff. And I loved him for good. He also has so much class and such a zen attitude, wow! I also thought it was rather original that someone his age would be the leader when there are two older men in the team - in particular when one of them is Mr Robert Vaughn.
Then there's Stacie. I'll be honest here and say that in the pilot I thought she was kinda... decorative. Which isn't something I enjoy in female characters, thank you very much. But I changed my mind with "Faking It" - yes again - and I'm really into her now. I also love her smarts and the way she seems to never lose her cool. I know it's more or less a prerequisite in their line of "work" but still, she does it well :-)
Ash is cool but though an integral part of the team, he still seems a bit distanced somehow. Still, I have problem imagining him not part of the team.
Albert now is so cool. Mischievous and wise in turns - classy all the time. His character is fantastic. I guess Aline would say it's Robert Vaugh in all his glory *g* And I guess she would be right, too lol Oh I also quite enjoy how protective of Danny he was in those first two episodes. Well all the time, I guess, but in those two in particular :-)
But my favourite character, Mr Numero Uno is Daniel aka Danny. Ah Danny. He's just so sweet you could eat him up with a spoon, I swear! He's a total brat but he's endearing to me, which is an accomplishment brats don't always achieve. Sometimes they're just annoying but I love Danny - he's in turn enthusiastic and insecure and I quite fancy that :-) And btw, yes, he is canonically called Danny and I'll be saying his name a lot - take that mean SG fandom! I also love how hard he tries to belong - and I enjoy it even more because he did succeed and is a part of the team like the others.
So. Take the characters on their own and they're already interesting enough but put them together and dude! It's heaven *g* I mean they're so bloody CUTE! Sure they're smart and brilliant and have class and they're con artists and it's supposedly nice enough - it's a joy to follow them during their cons but - seeing them interact on a daily basis is just too sweet for words. There's so much affection there. They share looks all the time - amused looks or fond ones, but it's always really sweet. I also particular enjoy how they behave towards Danny cause he does behave like the kid brother most of the time - okay, always - and is treated accordingly. Which means he gets yelled at a lot, too, poor guy lol But, like, the last scenes of "Faking It" and "Cops and Robbers" made me feel all tingly inside. I love those guys!
Also, the episodes in themselves are real fun. Fun because it's always interesting seeing how those difficult cons are pulled off and fun because of the way some scenes/sequences are filmed. Some episodes have very original ones - for instance, I love the frozen image each time our Con Artists are figuring out the new angles. And I loved the two "movie" parts, the one in "Faking It" with the musical and the other in "Cops and Robbers" with the silent movie reference - more like reenactment, actually. That was brilliant *g* And the whole "one week earlier" thing when we suddenly go back in time to see how they arrived at the opening scene won't ever get old in my book. Same thing with the little twists they use. Making us believe something is black when it's white - well you know what I mean. It also makes me quite paranoid because there's a point when I don't know what or who to believe anymore... which is kinda cool lol
Oh and spéciale dédicace à

Date: 2005-11-17 03:27 pm (UTC)I adore that show. You have to thank Aline for it more than me, though, because without her current crush on all things Robert Vaughn, I wouldn't even have heard of it. Initially, I only downloaded it for her but heeee, I got hooked. I'm still only on episode five, but that's just because I've been busy, lol.
I love your description of Danny, that's so exactly him as himself alone and within the team. <3 I particularly liked his interactions with Stacy in "Cops & Robbers", the two of them were priceless. So much damn fun! And yeah, Stacy also grew on me after a while. She was indeed too decorative initially (mind you, she is gorgeous).
Unless I messed up, you should have all of the eps currently available. Two seasons, 12 eps. If you don't have 12 eps then I must have done something wrong at some point... There's a third season coming soon, apparently. :-D

Mickey-Danny and Stacie-Danny are good beyond the telling of it! And yeah, their scenes in "Cops and Robbers" were so incredibly fun!

DUDE! Thank you SO much! This is awesome. Also and since we're talking about copies and the likes - do you want the rest of TS? I think I have a DVD left so I could start burning more for you. Just let me know *g*

Date: 2005-11-17 03:51 pm (UTC)And oooo, well, you don't have to feel like you have to offer, honest. I'm always happy sharing the TV love and would have sent you those DVDs no matter what. But if you have more Sentinel to share, I wouldn't say no, as I tried finding more to download for myself but it's impossible to find any available eps. :-)

Date: 2005-11-17 03:59 pm (UTC)As for something specific... hmm I don't know, I'm thinking of a cute!Danny pic [the likes of the one you're using, but since you love him too, I guess I can trust you lol] with a caption that would say something like
By the book
...
Kinda
Cause Danny likes to improvise, alright lol OH! Or one that would say "Hustler" because as stupid as the pun is, it won't ever get old in my book *g* Thanks *g*
And hey, I know you share the tv love without any "hidden agenda" lol It just makes me happy to share as well, is all *g* So alright, I'll start burning the rest :-)

Date: 2005-11-17 03:53 pm (UTC)Three? But I thought they'd only done and aired two so far and that number three was not going to be out until 2006? At least that's what I read on the BBC site. But if they've already aired season three then ooo, I need to try and find those eps now!

Date: 2005-11-17 05:34 pm (UTC)no matter how much the show sucks, now that I think about it, I can't stop loving him. I mean, it's like those cartoons we loved as kids - it doesn't matter if they suck like Hoovers, they still have a special place in our hearts, don't they? *coughs* les chevaliers du zodiaque*
*bounces* Kronooooos!

Date: 2005-11-17 09:18 pm (UTC)The relationship between Mickey and Albert is *great* - the way you feel Albie taught him everything and still protects him anyway.
I love Mickey, he's stunningly beautiful. And Stacey? Being just decorative? SHe's so different and smoother and smarter looking than the average TV girl! I love her, really.
So, Danny... Well. I think he's the least striking one. HE could be on any show and he would still look like the cute American rookie; I really think he's not quite as good as the others -as an actor mainly.
And Ash? You forgot Ash! He's brilliant.
Of course, Robert steals every scene he's in.
It's pretty funny, you know... David McCallum in NCIS in the States and Robert Vaughn playing in England for the BBC.... Vive les pépés!
I'm *so* happy you liked it!

Date: 2005-11-17 09:36 pm (UTC)Also, I thought Stacie was kinda decorative in the pilot only. It didn't last long, I promise *g* Also, nope I didn't forget Ash :-)
I more than like it, woohoo!
