It feels like I had the laziest week ever. Apart from going out with Sandrine on Tuesday and going out tonight, I kinda did nothing. I didn't open a book, I was that bad a student. This morning I woke up and thought, today is your day Mousey, you're going to catch up with all the chapters of your Italian textbook that you didn't study and er, well, let's just say that sorta didn't work either. Hi, I'm the worst procrastinator on earth. I am ashamed... but it doesn't change a thing *sigh*

There should be a PA comm somewhere; Procrastinator Anonymous. Except of course it wouldn't be 100% anonymous what with our lj names and stuff but whatever. We would encourage each other to do the things we need to do when we need to do them, and it would be good.

Well actually no, I did start something; a new fic. I think my genetic makeup totally messed up with my sense of priority. Something in my brain isn't right.

Changing the subject - did you know of the Sam/Dean Slash Archive? Cause I didn't. For which, of course, I blame my flist because dudes, I always count on you to bring me that kind of news. Mind you, it certainly was announced on [livejournal.com profile] sn_slash but it's on my community filter - filter for communities, never for people is my motto, btw - and I totally missed it.

Oh and what do I hear about SPN, btw? That we'll get "Shadow" - omg "Shadow", wheee! I watched the new trailer and the love is still strong! - and then we'll get a new hiatus? Is that true? Because man, the American network drives me CRAZY with its love for hiatus, I swear. Two episodes then a week hiatus then twelve episodes then a three month hiatus then five episodes then a week hiatus then one episode then a month hiatus? There has to be a good reason for this but god, it's nuts. I'm so used to having the whole season in one go when the show finally makes it to France that the whole You See Me Now You Don't aspect of the original airing makes my head spin and makes me want to kill someone.

So anyway, since I don't follow the whole SPN schedule story properly, is it true or not? Tia.

Finally, a little GIP. Because I needed my very own jsquared icon and because [livejournal.com profile] crazybutsound is love. I so love it when an icon is just for me - it's unique and it's mine! *is a two year old*

It was fantastic, wasn't it? It was just a few more scenes but boy did they make it count! It would have been worth it just for Dean's 'Dad', I so second that!

We must enjoy what we can get our hands on.

We certainly know how to do that, don't we? *g*

There has to be a good reason for this but man, it's nuts.

It's mostly because the network television in America is so highly competitive that scheduling can make or break a show. You want to have the right episode at just the right time to draw in the most viewers. When the order of episodes is flipped around, more often than not that's the underlying reason -- someone at the network decided this episode would be better for this week than that one, etc.

It's also because we have such a ridiculous amount of BIG EVENTS that go on throughout the year, and the networks have to schedule around them. Nobody wants to schedule stuff during the Olympics, for example, so lots of the networks had brief hiatus. Or the Superbowl before that, or a big holiday with all the special programming that goes with it, or an awards show, or or or.

And THEN the networks look to stretch the season out long enough with the fewest number of long breaks (during which they can lose viewers who don't wait around for the show to come back) that interrupt it. Like, if they showed it all in one go, they have an even longer gap between seasons that they have to fill, and they have to worry about whether viewers will come back.

Yadda yadda yadda, you get the idea. It's an insanely delicate balance based on years of marketing research (or so they tell us), and in the end, just be glad SN isn't on the Scifi channel, because their scheduling makes me want to kick a puppy.

I suppose having so many channels has its drawbacks, the whole competition between the networks has to be crazy.

It's different here. Tv and tv shows aren't that big a thing, you know? Let's forget about the cable, our regular, free network? Has five channels - six if you want to count Arte and La Cinquième as separate channels.

A new network arrived some months ago called la TNT which is a free network, it has overall nineteen channels, except for now? We have to pay to get it. Yes, I quite love the irony of paying for something that is free. It you buy a new tv now, la TNT is included in it, but the ones we currently have? Don't, so if you want the other channels, you need to pay for them.

ANYWAY, I digress, sorry lol

Technically, I can't even say that I don't understand their reasons, their goal is to keep their viewers, after all; so it would stand to reason they would prefer to take a break during big events but argh! It is insane; and since from my position, I don't always know what big American event is happening, it always looks like they're doing this at random, it's even more annoying *glare*

Competition between the networks is cut-throat and it controls everything about American TV.

It dictates what kind of shows we'll get on regular network TV versus cable or versus premium channels (ie, network TV plays it much safer to attract as many people as possible, so edgier shows like Nip/Tuck or The Shield have to be on cable, and the high concept shows like Deadwood or Rome or Carnivale have to be on the premium channels where people will pay for them).

It's also the reason why really crappy shows can stay on the air when good shows can be cancelled (since crappier shows take less money to make and need less viewers to offset the costs, whereas higher quality shows cost more to produce, so if their ratings don't make up for the cost, they're toast while the crappy shows stay) -- something I HATE WITH A BURNING PASSION.

And believe me, I feel your frustration, particularly since most of the time I'm not interested in whatever events are going on. *pouts*

While we're talking about scheduling, I seem to remember you mentioning that SN is moving to Thursdays? When's that happening?

Procrastinator Anonymous, huh? I'd so totally join that, lol. And don't feel bad about procrastinating, it's one of the joys in life. *nods*

did you know of the Sam/Dean Slash Archive?

No, I did not know there was a Sam/Dean Slash Archive. But now, thanks to you, I do and therefore, you win.

And I'm so with you on the whole "going crazy because of the American networks' love for hiatus" thing. *grumpy*

I think the competition would kill us all in the process were we to go for #1 Worst Proscrastinator.

Then again, it would stand to reason that everyone would pull if off, so maybe not lol
