I'm here today,during lunch break (so I'm home now), because I need to talk about a show that has been giving me ALL THE FEELS over the weekend, namely Daredevil. Or, to be more precise, let's say it gave me ALL THE FEELS over the course of yesterday, as Cookie and I have been mainlining the first ten episodes on Sunday.
We could have watched the whole season then and there but, see, we'd already spent our Saturday indoors, inside a cinema, as we attended a Hobbit marathon. We were there from 10.30AM to 8.00PM, therefore we thought it might be a good idea to actually not spend another whole day inside. Leaving the flat was difficult, you guys, but we did it! We felt the sun on our faces, enjoyed the wind in our hair, it was good. We were also really impatient to get back home and resume our marathon interrupted lol
Although. To be perfectly honest, I didn't mind the little interruption that much. I mean, I was eager to know what happened next and, admittedly, it is so easy to just let Netflix take the reins and start the new episode for you, you don't have to do anything but brace yourself for what comes next, but I found that I appreciate marathons to their fullest when I've already watched the source once and I've already gone through the high that comes with discovering a new favourite show.
As it happens, I think I enjoy the anticipation and the frustration of having to wait for a new episode to air, there's a bit of a thrill in all that. I guess I like to make things last, even for just a little while longer (basically, it'll have taken us only two days to watch the whole season if we do finish it tonight). Yes, there is something incredibly satisfying in not having to wait too long, to have all the episodes at your disposal if you want to watch several of them in one-go but I realised that keeping some for the day-s after is satisfying is its own right. The anticipation, the expectations, the frustration, they enhance the experience for me. Fancy that ;)
Having said that, I'm happy I don't have to wait too long lol It is delicious knowing you don't have to wait a week between each episode and can dive into new ones whenever you feel like it. I guess I just want the discovery to last a little longer than a day, is all :)
Anyway, has anyone been watching the show? What did you think? In case it wasn't clear, I'm a member of team I Love It. I think the cast is perfect (be it Matt, Fisk, Claire, Foggy but also Wesley and Vanessa and let's not forget the Ranskahov brothers etc.). Actually, as I said in a tweet, Daredevil kinda had me root for the Russian mob which, you know, never thought I'd ever say that but there you go! Ok, ok, I wasn't rooting for the Russian mob per se but I just immensely enjoyed the relationship between Vladimir and Anatoly, so there.
The action scenes are fantastic and more realistic than usual - or as "realistic" as action scenes can be in that specific genre. What I mean is, Matt never wins easily (and, hey, sometimes he doesn't win at all!), It usually takes quite some time. And quite a lot of him, too. He gets tired, he hurts, he gets out of breath, he aches. I don't know what's your stance on it but I think the man suffers beautifully :) I love those darker versions of superheroes (Arrow won me over thanks to that point of view) and think Steven DeKnight did brilliantly. Not that I doubted him but you never know...
I just want to kiss the whole team of writers for giving us such interesting characters (or for adapting them in such a way that I'm all over them) and such lovely dynamics! There's an interesting relationship pretty much everywhere you look ♥
If this were 2005, I'd say that I need icons now and I'd find a dozen of them with no effort on my part. As is it, I'm not even sure I'd know where to go looking! Might just ask Cookie to make some for me... oh, and check whether I still have enough icon slots to use them.
