SG 9x03 - "Origin"
Jul. 31st, 2005 04:57 pmMy love for s9 is certainly growing exponentially. And I think being able to see the episodes as they air - I mean, practically - has a lot to do with the excitement - being there when everything is new is definitely compelling.
Anyway. On with "Origin" aka NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!- for which, sorry, but couldn't resist
My my, the new Villains are kinda cool. They're certainly creepy. I think I like them best as Villains because it resonates quite well with some things that happen in our own world - religious fanatics and such - and makes the storyline more intense somehow whereas the Goa'uld just seemed so, I don't know, OTT? I mean, don't get me wrong, I thought they were cool but they never creeped me out. The Ori? They do. Which is nice. In a twisted kinda way blah blah blah. Also they actually scare Daniel. I mean, if I had doubts about them being so evil and stuff, TPTB squelched them and made a true believer out of me, which is actually pretty amusing, everything considered *g*
The Jaffa intrigue... well, it doesn't interest me that much, I'll admit - maybe because I usually don't give a damn about politics in RL - but I'm still making an effort for Teal'c. Because he needs to do more than he did so far in those episodes - you go, T, do... something, yay!
Now, on with the rest:
Daniel: I'm falling in love with that character all over again, and no I never fell out of love with him either so yeah, saying something. But it's like I have ole!Daniel back and I always had one hell of a soft spot for earlyseason!Daniel - so, even though he did evolve and change and of course he did considering everything he went through since "Children of the Gods", I'm seeing some traits of his when the series was at its beginning and it makes me feel all tingly inside *g* It's like having the best of two worlds. And for instance, I love his little speech to the Doci - that's my Daniel, yay!
Also, I thought it was so very typical that Daniel was part of the team - team of two, but whatever - that sorta provoked the whole Let's Find The Unbelievers And Make Them See the Truth campaign launched by the Doci. Talk about opening a can of worms *pets Daniel* As it happens, I loved his exchange with Vala right after he's back from his little visit to the Doci when he tells her that it's because of them that Earth just lost the protection they had against the Ori so far - the frustration and the little hand thing.
Then again, one could argue that I enjoy pretty much all exchanges between Daniel and Vala... and one wouldn't be so far off base. Which brings me to my next point - admire the smooth segue, will you?
Vala: Can she stay all season? I love her so much, I don't wanna her to leave *clings* I know some people said she might end up being annoying after awhile and I have no idea whether this would turn out to be true or not so hey, why don't we try to find out? Make her stay, please pretty please? It would be nothing more than conducting an experiment, promise!
I actually loved her even more in "Origin" because she showed a more serious side of her - a more, I don't know, compassionate side, maybe. I could have said she was suddenly more human but technically being annoying as hell is a pretty human trait, so it would have been redundant ;-) But anyway, I liked how she was both annoying and irreverent and well, Vala, while at the same showing she wasn't just those things. Like when she looked and smiled softly at Fannis when he stated that he wasn't afraid to die if it was for the good cause - and I'm paraphrasing and all, so sue me - or at the end when Daniel thanks her right after she unlocked the bracelet, the way she smiles at him. I loved those moments *g*
Another scene with those two made me laugh out loud when wasEve Vala offered an apple to Daniel. I mean, it's not as if it actually meant anything, but considering the context, I just thought it was funny. So sue me? Again *cough* Also quite enjoyed her method: go straight to the end of the book and tell me how it turns out, kthxbai. That's Vala, alright lol
Cameron & Landry: I'm still loving those two. Landry more and more, actually. I think him makes one hell of a good SGC General. I'm not loving him more than Hammond because Hammond... well, it's Hammond, you know, but Landry is definitely sitting close *g*
Now, the scene that made all the slashers go wild.
Jack: Popping up in Daniel's office because he was "in the neighbourhood". Know what? That scene should have filled me with glee, and yet it didn't. No, I'm lying, it did fill me with glee but maybe differently than it should have. Why? Because... well okay, the scene in itself was squee material - the dialogue, the exchange, they were awesome. The "Sorry you didn't get to go on Atlantis" [Don't remember the exact line, sorry] "No, you're not" "No, I'm not" was brilliant beyond word and would have sufficed, actually - it was that good to me. And then it went even better when Daniel admitted to Jack - because he couldn't admit it to anyone else - that he was scared... and Jack went with his "I'm hungry" which once translated meant "what do you say we eat and talk about this" and that was seriously of the good. So my problem with the scene is... well, sorry but it was Jack. Or rather RDA.
I mean, I have no idea whether there's an explanation that has to do with RL issues here but he seemed, I don't know, not even bored at this point, but downright zombified. Almost as if he'd just taken some valium or I don't know what. I mean, I'm sorry to say that he didn't do anything to me, he looked that off to me. And I know, I'm not a Jack girl but still... he was supposedly the Jack I like, serious and sarcastic but not acting dumb, so it should have work - it did not. And I'm blaming RDA completely here *shrug* But I still loved the scene in and of itself, anyway.
A last thing... Harrid and Sallis... they did die in Daniel and Vala's places, didn't they? Since they pulled a Quantum Leap on us - down to the reflected image of the Other on the mirror and all - the poor couple died at the stake instead of our Infamous Comic Duo. Will they even mention it? Because damn, first Fannis and then Harrid and Sallis... methinks it's something that would weigh on my conscience somehow. Like, even if Fannis always did acknowledge the risks and he accepted them, I would feel bad about his dying for a battle that though was originally his had became mine - same thing for Harrid and Sallis. Even more actually since they had no say in the whole thing.
Changing the subject - I don't know if it's old news but I just discovered that Josh Lanyon is working on the third novel of his Adrien English series and this made me squee because I'm madly in love with that series! Can't wait for The Hell You Say to be released. Don't think I saw a date, but hopefully I actually got the news so late that it's about to be finished? And in case someone knows what I'm talking about - apart from
katikat, or
crazybutsound now that I think of it - here's a little excerpt of The Hell You Say.
Finally, and because turns out I'm apparently a glutton for punishment, I joined the Very First Numb3rs Slash Ficathon created by - and it won't come as a suprise, I'm sure - the ever so inspired
audrarose,
sori1773, and
spikedluv. And not to brag or anything, but I was the very first to join - well, the creators of the ficathon don't really count, do they? - let's see if I end up being the first one to cry like a baby because my Muses suddenly went AWOL, shall we?

Date: 2005-07-31 03:18 pm (UTC)i don't disagree with your review per se, although i don't want vala to stay and well, i feel ambiguity about daniel's character. sometimes i recognise the old daniel but sometimes he seems so different. oh well.

Date: 2005-07-31 04:40 pm (UTC)Well Daniel is different, isn't he? I can't say I dislike the change because after everything he went through, I think I would have some trouble believing he could have stayed the same. But since I will always love earlyseason!Daniel, I'm so happy to see of this Daniel a little in s9!Daniel - so yay!

Date: 2005-08-01 12:29 pm (UTC)yeah he is. i'm not sure what to think of the new daniel, it's too early to say.

Date: 2005-07-31 03:43 pm (UTC)And...are you serious?...now
Iwe have to listen to you whine about another ficathon deadline? And...AND?...in a fandom *I* don't even follow. ::shakes head::no subject
Date: 2005-07-31 04:42 pm (UTC)This is the second time I get to hear this re: s9 lol I'm loving this season so much, I'm quite excited! Can't wait for the rest of the season *bounce*
Yes Meanie McMean, you'll have to listen to me whine about another ficathon's deadline! I'm that cruel *eg*
And...AND?...in a fandom *I* don't even foll
You're so stubborn though. Why don't you fall for Numb3rs once and for all? *shakes head*

Date: 2005-07-31 06:08 pm (UTC)And we all know that what the Mouse loves is what really really matters in this world, so as long as you are happy, my little kumquat, then *I'm* happy too. *g*
You're so stubborn though.
Not so much stubborn as the whole attention span of a gerbil thing I've got going. It's hard enough for me to find time for the one fandom I absolutely am madly in love with. If I try to divide my time, alas, the boys would suffer and we cannot have that, now can we?

Date: 2005-07-31 06:29 pm (UTC)That's a tricky statement, isn't it? Cause if I agree I'll be called a brat, and wow, I've never been called that!
so as long as you are happy, my little kumquat, then *I'm* happy too. *g*
Aww wait, I take back the whole trick thing cause that's so sweet! Kinda makes me a brat still, but sweet all the same lol
If I try to divide my time, alas, the boys would suffer and we cannot have that, now can we?
Hee, no we can't! We so can't! Besides, I like mono-fandom people - go you!

Date: 2005-07-31 05:15 pm (UTC)Yes! Thank you! I felt the exact same way and so far, I was the only one on my flist who did. I was starting to wonder if I was seeing something different than everyone else. :p I loved the scene itself, the dialogue and Daniel being so happy to see him, etc. but that Jack? Was not my Jack.

Date: 2005-07-31 06:21 pm (UTC)I kept going wtf? each time he opened his mouth, he was that off to me. I just don't know what happened here *blink* Despite all that, I loved the scene but it certainly wasn't thanks to RDA's acting *shrug*

being a total Jack!girl, I don't know as I'd want to watch it now either, as I gather he's more or less left the show
Yeaah, I'm not sure you would enjoy the new season, then, cause Jack isn't here anymore, no. He appeared in the first episode and in the third - just for, what, five minutes?

Date: 2005-08-01 01:41 am (UTC)if there was anything I could stealwhat you had to say. *g*I like Vala, too, though more in Avalon 2 and Orgin than I did in Prometheus Unbound and Avalon 1. I like the serious side of her, I think, and the way it works off Daniel, rather than when they act like two girls having a cat fight. However, I don't want her to stay. Unless she starts interacting with the rest of the team and lets Daniel interact with the rest of the team.
I sososo agree with you about Jack/RDA! I was thrilled that there was a J/D scene, but I thought that it could have been so much better. IMO, RDA just phoned his appearance in. I could have done a better job, and that's saying something. *g*
Yes, you were first!!! I don't count, 'cause I just did it so people would have an idea of how to sign up, lol. *bounce* 22 people already, and it's only been 48 hours!
P.S. I mention this in my post, but since I'm already here, the CDs arrived!!! *squees* Haven't had a chance to rewatch those two eps, but I will be doing that soon. Thanks again! *vbg*

Date: 2005-08-01 08:24 pm (UTC)I still haven't read my flist - am itching to do it, as you can imagine - so I hope you posted your review by now? *g*
I decided to read yours first to see
if there was anything I could stealwhat you had to say. *g*LOL I know the feeling. Thanks, btw *g*and lets Daniel interact with the rest of the team.
Hey you're right! She's kind of monopolising him, isn't she? Possessive woman that she is *thinks back of the "Where's my Daniel" line* *loves*
Ha! So it's not just me nor
Re:PS. They arrived already? Yay! You're so bad lol

Date: 2005-08-01 09:14 pm (UTC)Zombie!RDA is right. It's very sad that we're so grateful for any J/D moment that we'd squee over the crap we were given. *sigh*
Yes, they're here!! I was so surprised. Only about 5 days then. Wow. *bounce*
