Work is being such an ass today. It was already cranky yesterday but today is even worse. It's even more frustrating that I'm this close to solve the bloody problem except it just doesn't want to cooperate and it's apparently determined to drive me a bit insane *smites*
And the flist isn't cooperating either since everything is about the latest drama. No porn of any kind, sadly.
I have to say that, as a whole, I usually don't trust Fandom as far as wanks go. I mean, you know how much I love, nay, how much I adore Fandom, but it's not exactly known for being reasonable nor is it known for its level-headness. Or, at least, that's how I see it. Not to say everyone will agree.
So I usually just wait for the drama to be over and for everyone to go back to the important things, namely write fics and speak about shows and, why, yes I do have my priorities right, why? ;-) Except that this time it seems the drama was actually justified?
Well, not to the extremes I've seen some people go - though, hey, everyone is entitled to it, just because I might not agree doesn't mean I think people are wrong in how they react to things - but I've read some of the latest news/articles that were linked on the flist, as opposed to just spread rumours, and I can't say I liked what I read here, I'll admit. I don't know, I'm waiting to see where the whole thing is going - if it's going somewhere - and hoping some of the things I read aren't going to become a trend on LJ...
But, see, I couldn't be upset over the whole thing because with fandom it's a bit like the boy who cried wolf; wanks and mass panic ensue so often for no reason that I never know whether I'm supposed to look at things with a closer look on not. And also, I guess I usually don't take certain things as seriously as some people do. So, again, I'll just wait and see how things go...
Still, I'll be impatiently waiting for theporn calm to come back.
And on other news; I finally have my very own SPN s1 box-set! It was released yesterday and I went there with my fake!bdayvoucher but very real money and treated myself with the thing. It's shiny and pretty and it's all spn all the time and it has extras and it filled me with glee :-)
ETA: I've always been curious as to how many fandom oriented journals there could be on LJ and, thanks to
fandom_counts, we can now start to have an idea. As of this minute we're at 24061 24126 24127 24166 and counting.
greedy_dancer, I can sorta understand your obsession with the refresh thing now lol It's pretty neat seeing the figure rise with each new click!

Date: 2007-06-01 08:19 am (UTC)Oh, anyway, I don't care, I have to say lol As long as I have fun with my fannish flist, it's okay :-)
The journals and even communities were restored, weren't they? That's encouraging, at least. We'll see how it goes.

Date: 2007-06-01 08:29 am (UTC)But yeah, it still wouldn't reach the millions I suppose. But we still matter. We pump a lot of money, for one. ;)
And now I can't post! Woe, we broke LJ.

because it's called customer service and they owe it to us paid members? i only got annoyed at LJ BECAUSE they didn't tell us what was going on. i don't know how it's like where you live, but if i had handled a customer complaint like that at work, i would have been fired on the spot. you do not handle customer complaints by issuing statements to the press or not telling them what is going on. and it's not only avant de faire un post sur LJ, c'est presque *24 heures* apres qu'ils ont post sur LJ.
neither do we! that was the whole point of all this, wasn't it? they deleted fandom communities (as far as i know, most of them were hp slash communities) and fandom roleplaying journals simply because they listed "incest" as interest. so, in other words, they did not make any distinction between child abuse, rape and slash. which understandably enough, led to fandom revolt.
errr, those emails were sent to the owners of *fandom communities* (mostly hp slash) telling them that their communities had been suspended for doing EXACTLY THAT and would remain PERMANENTLY suspended. (of course, the latest news posts says otherwise, but it took them over 24 hours to change their decision.).
the omg they are going after slash rumours started after someone pointed out that Warriors for Innocence are homophobic (with proof) and therefore specifically targeted those communities. yes, it got out of hand because that's pushing it a bit for me too. and i do truly believe that the reason it got this bad ( i've had to endure pirates song and ugly macros all day!) is because of the lack of an official statement from LJ. had they done something to control the damage 24 hours ago, it would never have gotten this bad.
i'm not trying to change your opinion or anything, but i just felt the need to give my point of view. that said, fandom does tend to be obsessive and irrational at times so i guess there was a lot of overreacting as well.

you do not handle customer complaints by issuing statements to the press or not telling them what is going on.

Date: 2007-05-31 01:56 pm (UTC)They just didn't take the time to review the communities to know if they were dealing with real people or fictional characters.
no subject
Date: 2007-05-31 02:01 pm (UTC)I don't think they separate reality from fiction, and therefore it doesn't matter if it's fictional characters. And the questions is where it's going next.
So yes, they can delete all communitites that deal with ficion regarding illegal activitites. Such as incest.

Date: 2007-05-31 02:19 pm (UTC)They aren't stupid, they aren't going to separate reality from fiction. If they do, they'll have to delete all communities dealing with novels dealing with illegal activities, they'll have to delete all RP communities, since there's always a villain of sort, and they'll have to delete all fanfictions communities, because there's always a point in fanfic where there's a bad guy doing something wrong.
Do you seriously think that they are such big fools?

(although you know, i did write a little snippet! lol /shameless self-pimp)
ANYWAY. how are the extras on the boxset? worth buying? or should we buy an american or british version or something?

I'll check your snippet out properly when I'm home tonight. And go you for writing a little something! *cheers*
As for the extras, they're the same as the American ones; unaired scenes, gag reel, a Day in the Life of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, a commentary and stuff like that...
