I know it's now the 6th of March but,
jedicathy? When I started writing this entry it was still the 5th so a Happy Birthday to you and I'm totally not late, okay? *hugs*
Just watched the season finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and they have to renew the show for a second season, please pretty please?
There's no way for me to express the love I have for the writers for creating the character of Derek. Seriously, he's absolutely fantastic and, though he could have completely unbalanced the team, I think he complements it in the most wonderful way.
I don't even know what relationship I enjoy the most: Sarah-Derek, Derek-John or even Cameron-Derek. They're all unique and awesome and I hope they won't kill Derek. Ever! If, you know, the show comes back for a new season and everything.
I love the Sarah-Derek relationship because I like the idea of Sarah having a 2IC, like the idea of her having someone to talk to who's not, you know, a sixteen-year-old or a cyborg. Or a civilian, for that matter. Derek is a soldier, he understands about the war and, well, he needs to be reined in a little bit, sure, but he's one hell of a great ally and that's of the good.
Something else I enjoy fiercely with that duo? Is how, even though there's a new player in the team, a new male experienced soldier, Sarah is still running the show - and okay that's pretty literal and everything, this is The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but bear with me. I'd have hated if Derek had popped intoour their lives and had tried to do things his way because he's a boy he knows first hand about the war and because he's ruthless and all kinds of shit like that.
I'd have hated it if he'd been confrontational and if he'd kept trying to compete against Sarah or something. But he's not and he follows her orders and, sure, he has his opinions on things and all, but Sarah is the leader and that's it. He's accepted it and that's awesome. And her ordering Derek around is delicious... loved her 'follow him' after not!Sarkissian had left the house and how Derek obeyed her without the slightest hesitation. Or a single word. That was soo sexy, too!
And when they all came back to the house in the car, Sarah was riding shotgun while Derek was sitting in the backseat with Cameron and John. No, this is a big deal, really. Ok so in my world it is, so sue me.
The Derek-John relationship is fantastic too. I love how a bit confusing it might be; the whole 'I know you in the future and I know you now and can I reconcile the two?' thing - like when John goes 'you don't have to trust her, you can trust me' in "Vick's Chip". And Derek does just that. Again, not that he really has a choice, but if he were someone else, he could have been a real prick about the whole thing.
Or the whole birthday thing; with John being surprised that Derek knows it's his birthday and Derek going 'are you kidding? I celebrated your thirtieth birthday', it's fun to think about the bond future!John and Derek have... or to imagine all those things about John that Derek knows but that John ignores - er, did that part sound a bit weird?
Oh and what about Derek's birthday gift! It blew me away, seriously. Has to be one of the most beautiful gift ever given... it was so thoughtful, so sweet! Here's a man who can kill without a second thought and he's still capable of doing something like this. Derek, I love you!
And I love that he knows about John being his nephew. And that he figured it out all by himself. Especially because the way he did it is also pretty sweet - 'everytime I look at you, I see him'. Awww!
Of course, let's just hope that his revealing that he knows about John being his nephew doesn't mean he'll be killed in the next episode. If, you know, there's a next episode - okay, I think we all get it.
As for the Cameron-Derek relationship now; I love how antagonistic it is, how Derek distrusts and hates her... even though they're pretty similar in many aspects. Watching Sarah stopping Derek from killing those policemen at the City Hall was definitely reminiscent of all those times when she had to stop Cameron from killing someone. Cameron and Derek are definitely more alike than he would care to admit. Or know. That's a bit chilling, come to think of it, but so cool too *g*
And because I didn't wax poetry about the show enough, something else that I quite enjoy is all those mundane details we're offered; Sarah and the pancakes scene in "The Demon Hand" - I just loved that scene, so, yes, I'm still talking about Sarah's pancakes.
And in "Vicks' Chip" Sarah cooking dinner. Or burning it, to be more precise. John doing his homework. A lot. Or the newsletter thing. Or the teeth brushing thing, though seeing that it's Derek doing it, and knowing what we know about him, it might not have been such a little thing. I guess his brushing his teeth is a bit like him walking barefoot on the grass and looking up at the blue sky.
And then there's Sarah wanting to celebrate John's birthday and talking about cakes and stuff.
Also. When I said that SPN and T:TSSC begged for a crossover? I was so right. When Sarah corrected John about the fact his birthday was important and changed his 'it's our life' to 'it's our mission, this is our life, if we stop caring about that, we're lost', I immediately thought of John. I guess this is the major difference between the two...
Btw, is Lawrence, Kansas becoming quite the popular town or what?
So, anyway, I'll miss T:TSSC like crazy... so, please, come back to us?
As for now... I hesitate between going to bed and watching the New Amsterdam premiere. Oh, well, sleep is so overrated!

Date: 2008-03-05 11:46 pm (UTC)OMFG YES! She's Sarah fucking Connor, she's a legend and it totally shows Derek's used to thinking of her in that way. She's the boss and it probably never even occurred to him to question that and I love it.
(and yeah, I love love love that scene with the pancakes)
Oh and what about Derek's birthday gift! It blew me away, seriously.
I totally got chocked up when I first watched that scene and now I start grinning like an idiot just thinking about it. So much love. So much.

Ahaha, seriously.
They really, really, really need to renew the show. Really.
But until they do, I think I'll rewatch this season
and think some more John/Derek porny thought omg don't judge. :Dno subject

"She's the boss and it probably never even occurred to him to question that and I love it.
Yes, exactly, he didn't even try! It never was an issue to begin with, and how awesome is that?! Also, I love that Sarah doesn't even feel threatened, anyway; again, it never occurred to her that someone else could even try to run the show and steal her place.
Dude, I love those characters so much!
So much love. So much.
Tell me about it; that was such a gorgeous scene ♥ ♥
Ahaha, seriously.
I did a double take when I heard those words coming out of John's mouth and had to rewound the scene, because I was sure I was going a bit crazy and it was just the SPN freak in me inserting SPN references in another show I really love, you know? lol But no, he did say it.
and think some more John/Derek porny thought omg don't judge. :DJudging? Who's judging? Point me toward those fics, dude! And do we also find some future!John/Derek thrown in the mix, btw?"no subject

I'm actually a bit afraid to go looking for fic, I worry it'll all suck. ;) The only one I read so far is this and that's only John/Derek if you squint.
Man, and I really want some John/Derek, too. I guess I'll have to brave the wilds. *beams*
