This morning I signed my contract so I'm now officially hired at the Sorbonne. I handed in the two blurbs I wrote for the Romance Novels of Doom. Then I got back to work and I hired out another camel and a snake charmer.

I feel all accomplished today \o/

Completely, 100% unrelated; so one of my favourite slash topics is Top/Bottom: Who's Pitching and Who's Catching? Because I'm one of those people who have a 'strict' top/bottom policy... which is still the same, my favourite character has to be the one taking it. That's it, no complicated theories, no deep reasons. Favourite character = bottom.

On his back, on all fours, against the wall, bent over the couch, straddling one's lap, in front of a whole audience, with a dildo, I don't care, as long as he's the one getting the deep dicking. As they say *cough*
And after discussing that topic with people here and there, I know that I'm not the only one being kinda anal about it - pun intended if you want to be that way.

So. If you have a couple of seconds to waste spare and feel like it, would you mind indulging me and filling that poll?

Further to your poll. Obviously it has to be the character I love getting fucked. It's just how it is. However, I will read it the other way but it just won't be as good as it lacks that certain something that I adore. Which is the AM I love taking it, preferably hard and fast.

And! The Sorbonne has this very annoying habit of hiring its contractuels - which is my status - for, like, three or four months, six if you're very lucky, then renewing those contracts for all eternity and I got a one-year contract! I thought I'd read wrong lol

So I'm really hoping it'll go well now, because if does, I should be good for a whole year of employement and real salary :-)

I sometimes think it'd be nice if I didn't care so much who tops and who bottoms, because I'd be attracted to more fics, obviously, but at the same time, you can't help having specific tastes, you know?

TS is the only fandom where I actually have a preference, which is a tendency to prefer bottom!Blair, possibly because I'm overly invested in primal!Jim...*g* But with other characters, I'm willing to go where the writer takes me.

I consider who's topping and bottoming to be just another facet in the story dynamic and it changes accordingly. Jim's my OTC and when I want him dominant and agressive I have him top and when I want him lost in his senses I make him bottom.

Although mostly I prefer blow jobs and frottage for my boys.

With me, it mostly depends on the fandom. In SPN, I very much prefer Dean bottoming (I just can't see him being top with Sam). In SGA, I really don't care who's the top in the McShep pairing (though it's nice when it's John, but it's not required for me to enjoy the fic).

About your poll: For me it's entirely dependent on the character. Some I prefer to see bottom most the time and some I don't have any preferences for at all. Strangely enough I don't think I've ever had a favourite character that I preferred topping most of the time.

I won't be even nosier and ask you which characters for which position but I really am curious about what make people tick, I have to say :-)

Maybe because I'm so hell bent on my own top/bottom preference that it's really interesting to see other's different tastes.

Well, when it comes to My Chem my three favourite characters are Bob, Frank, and Gerard and I've got no prefs when it comes to Bob and Frank at all but I prefer Gerard to bottom - I still read stories where he tops or they switch but the sex scenes are better if he bottoms :-) My gateway drug to the fandom where Patrick and I've got no preferences about him either. I've been thinking about what exactly it is about a character that makes me have preferences but I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

ETA: I THINK it's got something to do with how I read a character - if they're clearly dom or sub or, as most people, neither. And the reason why I've got no favourite character who I prefer topping is because I'm not very interested in people with dominant, aggressive personalities.

Okay so I've asked myself that same question time and again and I'm never really sure as to why I have such strong preferences. Why is it that if I'm 'warned' that the dynamics is different, I might not even read the fic?

Guess it's because I like the way the characters are written when they're on the bottom... it usually/sometimes gives a certain feel to the story, how the characterisation is done a certain way...

And maybe the reason is more personal and intimate yet... seriously, I'm not sure.

I guess I have that strong a preference because it's just one of those things, is all *g*

I'm a fan of ANYTHING/EVERYTHING GOES. It doesn't depend on my mood, character or fandom, but it does depend on the writer's ability to sell it to me. Under the right circumstances and with a proper explanation, I can find it totally believable and enjoyable for anyone to be in any position.

as for the top/bottom um, issue, i generally have a preference for who tops and who bottoms but it's not like i'll refuse to read a fic where it's the other way round. at the end of the day, i don't particularly care if the fic's good. but i generally prefer fics where there's a specified top as opposed to fics where they constantly switch.

And you know, I've never given it much thought, but now that I do think about it...normally, I don't really care who tops and who bottoms (in fact, I prefer it if they switch, really), but there are exceptions where I have a very clear preference and am totally thrown if the story does it otherwise (for instance, in NCIS, the Gibbs/DiNozzo pairing, I can not for the life of me imagine DiNozzo topping).
