My sister found a treasure today at my grandparents' place! She was moving some boxes and found old calendars dating back to 2000. This, in itself, wasn't that surprising since my grandfather used to keep them: he also used to write on them so they're like a little diary of sorts. Succinct, but still. What she wasn't expecting though was to find old ones that went back to 1982 - the year of her birth.
So she went looking and found even older ones, the oldest being for the year 1954, which happens to be the year of my mother's birth and it was moving because on 29 March, you can see "naissance d'Aline 6h00" written carefully - and then there's the return of my grandmother with their new baby, seems like my grandfather had actually taken a day off for that and, I don't know, seeing his handwriting, knowing he'd kept those calendars all those years, it made me feel all tingly inside. It's also awesome because he started building the house that year and he wrote every little detail about his work in the calendar too, so we could follow each step at they were made. Then there were grand-uncles' weddings and things, and yeah, a real treasure, that one. I'm hoping we'll be able to find the calendar for 1979 now :-)
The timing also felt perfect because I've been thinking about him a lot in the past week - well, technically I think about him a lot on a good day but when we go 'au pays' - ie Lot et Garonne - and we meet with the Duraquois, it's like we're meeting with his history each time because that's where he comes from, where he grew up, and that part of the family is his. And there was this time when I was looking at postcards to send people and for a surreal moment, I was looking for a card to send him - it only lasted a second, if only that, then my mind went back to reality but it's always a little disconcerting when it happens.
But anyway, speaking of my little vacation? I uploaded the pics - some, not all of them, don't worry - to my bugbitten account so if you want to have a look, it's here and here.
And on fannish news - I've watched one episode of Kyle XY and I'm about to watch the second one and DUDE but I love that series with the passion of a thousand fiery suns! Kyle! Foss! Declan! The Tragers! Oh man, I have so much love for them all. Can't believe season 1 is almost over *cries*
Oh and speaking of series, Prison Break French premiere D-3! Three episodes in a row, too. Can't wait *bounces*

Hee Kyle XY is just so BRILLIANT! And dude, I can't wait to watch the season finale... How are they going to end the whole thing omg? And Foss' new involvement in the whole mystery is just awesome beyond words. Also, now, I'm being weary of Declan because I'm like, hey we got one twist, so why couldn't we get another? And then I have flashbacks of the finale of John Doe, and I'm like Declan acts in a weird way sometimes, he could betray Kyle omg!
Er yeah, never mind the crazy girl lol

Date: 2006-08-29 06:16 pm (UTC)A slight problem: You know the Veronica Mars CDs that you've sent to me? Well, the episodes 111 and 112 are missing. The CD was not among the one I've received. Could you pretty please send these two eps to me?

Date: 2006-08-30 09:56 am (UTC)Ouch, there're two episodes missing? I didn't pay enough attention, obviously, sorry for that! I'll see if I can find the missing episodes, no worries.

Date: 2006-08-30 09:54 am (UTC)Also, we've made some wonderful discoveries at my grandparents' place the last month; old photos, some taken during the war and it's been so weird because there's one with my grandmother and her sisters, all in their twenties, and it was taken in Paris and I'm like - god, when that pic was taken, they were in a country at war! It's quite powerful as photo goes. Or there was even older one taken in 1925 of my then ten-year-old grandfather, old letters... and now this; it's been quite moving. I'm glad they kept all those things.

Date: 2006-09-18 07:10 pm (UTC)Thanks. And I have to agree, the cheese flavour ice cream was definitely odd; it was also the first time I saw that kind of thing. The culinary world is full of surprises!
