Ich war in Berlin

If you've been on my flist for some time now, you might remember that the past three years, usually at the end of July, my sister and I have ourselves a sisterly weekend abroad. We pick a European capital, leave our respective SO behind, and discover a new city for three days. This time around we picked Berlin. As usual, I'm sharing with you some of the pictures I took there :)
Alexanderplatz

U-Bahn

Schloss Charlottenburg

The weather was a bit rubbish on Friday as it basically rained on and off all afternoon. It wasn't cold though, which was something, at least. On Saturday and Sunday, Berlin decided to be more friendly though and the sun shined all day. It was hot, 32°C+ kind of hot :)
Remains of Berliner Wall at the Gedenktsätte Berliner Mauer:

Neue Synagoge:

Sophienkirche: (Martin Luther King preached there in September 1964, during his visit of Berlin)

Berliner Dom:

On the roof of the Berliner Dom:

In the Lustgarten, in front of the cathedral, where people are allowed to cool off and splash their feet in the fountain. It was divine!

Neue Wache, the war Memorial

At the entrance of the memorial there is this long text where they explain what the memorial is about and where they list the victims whose memory they honour (homosexuals included).

Gendarmenmarkt, this is where the Konzerthaus is, flanked by the twin cathedrals, German and French:

Brandenburger Tor! It was so sunny that we couldn't really take a perfect picture of the front but the back is all right:

Potsdamer Platz and the Sony center:

Seigessäule, the Victory column: (we were dead on our feet at this point - we'd basically walked for eight hours, in a stiffling heat - so reaching the column did feel like a victory lol)

Yesterday morning, Checkpoint Charlie:

As a bonus, a couple of Buddy Bears. You find them all around the city:

And food. Not the fanciest but we didn't visit any restaurants or coffee houses this time around. Still, food! Burger King! Dunking Donuts (the last time I ate Dunkin Donuts was in 1999 (incidentally, in Beijing) so yeah, that was exciting lol). Rostbratwurst! And, of course, Starbucks ;)

So that was my weekend :) Hope you had a good one, too. Tonight I'll be busy catching up with fannish life, YT, AO3 and, last but not least, SDCC \o/ We'll see how long it takes me to watch/read it all ;)
