Confinement Jour 30 : 11 mai !
Apr. 15th, 2020 09:51 pmI started this entry earlier this morning and wrote this massive post about what had happened the past few days, which was quite the mixed bag of emotions and events, with many good, happy-making things happening over the weekend (Easter celebration even if it was just the two of us, online Easter meeting with the family, including my godmother and cousins in Italy, a two-hour-long call with my six-year-old nephew etc.) then others not so much but it turned out to be so cathartic that I ended up deleting it all and feeling much better for it ;)
How was your day? Good, I hope. Mine was. The weather was gorgeous again, albeit rather cold (my favourite type of weather, in short) and I worked while the sun caressed my skin through the window where I was sitting. It was a busy day (we're in the early stage of organising online exams at the moment, which isn't an easy feat with a university that has never done that before) but productive. Second, it was quiet. There have been some problems with a neighbour and for the first time since the lockdown started, we had a whole day of quiet. You can't imagine how utterly good it felt. So, yes, a very good day was had, indeed :) The day was off to a good start, come to think of it, as I started it with a slice of chocolate cake for breakfast :p It's a new recipe I've tried last night, one with no flour or butter. The substitute ingredient for those being red beans. And it worked really well! I'm planning on baking Dorayaki next.
I will have plenty of time to try out new recipes, as it happens, as Macron made his latest speech on Monday and officially announced that the lockdown in France will be extended till May, 11th. It was to be expected, I don't think anyone really thought we'd leave our homes anytime soon but... May, 11th. Sounds quite far away, know what I mean? And even when May, 11th strikes, cinemas, restaurants, museums, most shops etc. will still be closed so it's not as if we'll be able to resume our normal life anytime soon (if we can even really do that).
Anyway a) that's how it is and b) we're not there yet. In the meantime, let's list all the cakes we want to bake, shall we? ;)

Date: 2020-04-17 04:53 pm (UTC)Red beans in a chocolate cake, I never would have guessed they could make a good sub.
I'm glad the writing things down helped though. I've found the same in the past. That seeing the words on the screen helps, even if no one else sees them.

Date: 2020-04-18 05:26 pm (UTC)You have to try it, Terri, it's super good!
There's something very soothing about the whole from-your-brain-to-paper-or-screen and it can be quite helpful at times :)

It is a mess because we have so many people demanding the lockdown needs to end, and yet they don't seem to be thinking about what will happen then. The virus will still be out there and will still be spreading.
Yes, this situation right now isn't fun, and I know a lot of people are having it a hell of a lot worse than I am. But, at least we're safe. I can't see how they can go from lockdown to things opening without people going crazy and the whole mess starting again.
I badly want to go back to the cinema, to go pick up a coffee or eat out somewhere. But unless strict social distancing will still be in place I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so. I've just been reading the major of London has suggested that wearing face masks should be compulsory in public post lockdown and I think that could be an option combined with the strict social distancing, fewer tables in restaurants etc.
Sadly I suspect we won't be fully safe until a vaccine is found, and I doubt that will happen any time soon.

Date: 2020-04-23 02:42 pm (UTC)My co-workers and I talked about with our boss and we all agreed that it might be safer, at first, to keep working remotely as much as possible even if we are allowed to leave our houses. Besides, it's part of the recommendations: those who have no choice will be allowed go back to work physically but those who can work from home are advised to keep doing that. Cookie hasn't been able to work at all since Lockdown started and she'll most certainly be among those who have to out in the world but since I've been doing remote work non-stop since the beginning, I'll probably just go once or twice a week at first...
They're also talking about mandatory mask-wearing and I'm like, ok, I might actually feel a bit safer that way (especially as I take public transport pretty much every single day of the week) but what about the supply? We've purchased some and we'll receive them thanks to talented friends of mine who's been sewing them but let's say I couldn't order online or didn't have friends who can sew, what then?
Anyway... so many questions...
