Lost 1x07 - The Moth

You won't believe it! Actually you won't exactly care but that's sorta beside the point. OS put the episode for grabs during the night and when I woke up around 9.30 this morning it was already there!! I'd already resigned myself to wait until I was back home tonight to download and watch it and here it was! Man it was such a good way to start the day *g*
Also, you know the theory claiming that if you want people to read what you write, it's better if you write short and concise reviews? I just have one thing to say : Won't ever happen. Too bad. Not even sorry. The Mouse can't do that *shrug*
First things first THEY KILLED ME WITH THAT EPISODE! Like I thought they would, but I just wanted it to be clear before we even start, so if I had to sum up the whole thing in one word? OMFGTHATWASSOGOODITALLMOSTHURTNOSERIOUSLYIMNOTKIDDING. See? One word.
Second thing and before I forget. Maybe someone should remind JJ he sorta lost a character, because yes, remember Pregnant Lady? You know, Claire? She disappeared, man! Then again, maybe they voted her off the island *blink* Well, what about the Tribal Council, then?
Yeah anyway *cough* So a quick recap on all those characters first *waves hands*
Let's start with Kate aka The Big Disappointment. I'm so disappointed with her character, she's boring me like you wouldn't believe now. Where has the kick-ass lady gone?? *wails* Now she's just another Girl-In-Love-With-The-Hero and that storyline always bores me to death - and I'm sorry but I just don't see anything coming from Jack's side. Hmm, reminds me of something *snicker* Yeah anyway, I'm not a hetter but I'm so desperate with her character that I think I'd almost like to see her go with Sawyer because at least that pairing wouldn't be dull and stupid and boring me senseless. Only problem is? Sawyer is soooo fucking Sayid on the side - so, no can do. I'm not even interested in that pairing per se, but it's so bloody obvious, please! Sawyer/Sayid all the way, man.
And speaking of Sawyer? Kate was fucking mean to him - might sound odd considering the guy could eat her up or something, but when he followed them up --and wasn't he faster than them btw? Even though they'd left earlier? And if he took a shortcut to find them earlier, why didn't they use the shortcut? I'm having some issues with the whole island geography, methinks-- to tell Kate about Jack and she's going what makes you think we'd be interested in anything you have to day and he looks at her with that look? I felt so sorry for him and I couldn't even feel annoyed that he didn't warn her after all... and I'd have loved to smack Kate in the head myself, except not because I'm not violent but I would have loved to tell her off. Please please please do something about Kate and make her stop being so... blah all of a sudden! I wanna see kick-ass lady back, is that clear? Because it's seriously wrong when I'm starting to like Jack better than her... but that's the truth. Then again I may be biased because a) Charlie had issues with him and can you spell angst? and b) Jack and him resolved them and Jack was sweet and kind to him. But still! I don't want to like Jack better than Kate... it's wrong on so many levels... but you made me do this! Though she'll stay on the beach, right? That's something at least.
Hurley now. Look at him actually being an active part of something, like kick-ass!Hurley and not just cool-lines!Hurley. No, I'm unfair because he did some nice stuff in the previous episodes but he was more or less the comic relief so I was cheering when he was being all bossy and assertive and rescuey and everything. You go, Hurley!! And when he hugged the crap out of Charlie? So cute! *has some more Hurley/Charlie thoughts*
As for Michael, that was cool as well to see him take charge... but the whole thing with Sun is going out of control. He was so checking her out at the end of the episode and he wasn't even trying to be discreet about it. Is that another het pairing in the making? Cause we don't have enough of those, of course *rolls eyes* Oh! Michael reminds me of the Scott-Steve scene and OMG those other guys actually have names! And they speak! Boggles the mind.
Jack didn't bore me at all during today's episode. Don't want to think it was only because of his interaction with Charlie but don't want to rule it out completely either because that could be it *cough* I loved Jack in "White Rabbit" though, so I may be warming up to him for good... will have to wait and see.
Boone and Shannon now. They were back! And okay we didn't really see Shannon a lot but her two scenes were good! I loved the whole Dammit... dammitdammitdammit one in particular lol Shannon isn't disappointed me, at least *licks her*
Now... CHARLIE *clears throat* I mean, now let's talk about Charlie. And wait, Locke and Charlie and Locke/Charlie, because I so didn't give up on that ship. Sorta gave up Sayid/Charlie yes because re: Sawyer/Sayid but it's okay because I can pair Charlie with so many people : Locke first, then Hurley and in that episode? I could have even have paired him with Jack. Yes I know, I said that. Well, I told you I liked their scenes together, right? And since I don't have one OTP in that showThough Locke/Charlie still remains #1 so far it could work for me, as a back-up's back-up pairing, but even Jack was slashy today.
Know what? Somehow, I think "The Moth" was written for me. Yes, I have an egotistical streak a mile wide that's not the point - the point is, seriously, they'd have written the eppy for me and they wouldn't have made it differently... except maybe that a) Charlie's confession would have gone differently as in I had physical relations with... a boy I didn't even know. Right after that I had relations with... another boy. And straight after that I watched while they had relations with each other. Then again, I'm not exactly sure that's not what he meant anyway, and b) Locke would have fucked Charlie into next week to show him how proud he was of his babe at the end. So yeah, slightly different, but apart from that, it would have been the same thing.
Charlie was just so heartbreaking during the whole episode - so hurt and vulnerable, so eager to fucking please and thinking he was always found wanting - it just broke my heart. I ached for him good. Then there's Locke --who's now a 0 on my creepy-o-meter btw - and when did that happen? Oh yeah, it was in last week's episode, my bad-- who is showing Charlie he's worth it and he can do it and he's being supportive while not trying to overwhelm him and it was just WOW! Neo-Yoda struck again. Locke is one hell of a charismatic and powerful character. Maybe he'll go back to creep me out, but in those two episodes, he made it to the Favourite Character List - he's so zen-like and he knows stuff and he's all... guru like, but in a good way, well so far. Did I mention Yoda? Cause that's a positive reference, ya know. I'm pretty impressed. Impressed of how good he was to Charlie too - and true enough, I still don't know about his true motivation, as in was he genuinely sincere when he answered Charlie or not, but the point is, he was there to help Charlie when Charlie himself thought no one could and man, that was enough.
So when I spoke about Charlie's intense look? This whole intensity surrounding him, you saw it, didn't you? Cause if you didn't in "The Moth", you won't ever see it but it's all right, because I'm so there and I'll make up for your 'blindness'! lol And the vulnerability and the strength as well? That's how I like my characters - and it was really put on the spot in this episode. I was hoping it would be like that, I sorta had some high expectation for that particular storyline, let's admit *g* And they were all met, I'm so happy with it *bouncing*
Something ironical but rather cool? It's only after he got lost and stranded on that island that he found himself again. I thought it was poetic *g* It's also nice to know he'll start feeling better --physically and mentally, I mean-- from now on, though angst being my friend, I can only hope that they won't forget about his insecurity and whatnot. I mean, they seem to have pretty strong roots. Poor guy. His scenes with his brother were so painful... and when he yelled at Liam that he never looked out for him... as if he'd always been alone anyway, man that was so sad. Something else that was painful was the whole You did this to me. It was all about the music. Music. You took that away from me moment. Life and irony are a bitch, aren't they? Charlie was the one who tried to keep things under control and who just wanted to do music with his bro, he was the one who wanted to call it quits and then in the end... he lost it all. And talk about a last convo to have with your brother before your plane decides to crash, btw. The accident wasn't planned, mind you, but that's not the kind of last contact you want with someone who's dear to you anyway - even if at the time, Charlie must have hated Liam. Well actually, it makes it even worse - so it makes it better, see? *beams*
But of course needy and vulnerable and insecure Charlie also comes with I'm-here-to-rescue-you!Charlie and how did I love it when he pulled a Luke Skywalker on Jack?? Eeek that was good! Well yes I like it that he's the one who saved the hero - definitely had a nice ring to it *g* And it sure showed him he was good at something and it couldn't have come at a better time, which yeah was sorta the point of that particular storyline. Well, it worked for me, thanks lol Also it helped solved some of Charlie's issues with Jack. Can't blame the guy for having some inferior complex toward Hero-Leader-Super-Doctor Jack though. Glad he realised it was all bullshit and that he wasn't useless and no one thought he was anyway, paranoid much? Then again, it comes with the territory and I'm all for that, woohoo!
So okay something that didn't fool anybody even for a sec was the whole Give-me-the-drugs-and-I'll-make-you-worry-for-a-second-that-I'll-start-using-again-and-then-I'll-actually-throw-it-in-the-fire but what I liked was his I made my choice line. Because the last time he said it? Didn't exactly work out, so it was nice to see him affirm himself once and for all.
Man... it's so bloody great to cheer and worship and obsess over a new Favourite Character. How I love that feeling. Love being a fangirl *g*
Also dirty!Charlie? Yummy lol Locke couldn't resist him long, seriously. I mean, did you see his eyes? They definitely put on an emphasis on them this time. Twas a nice touch *g*
Oh also the SONG! It's not just a line now, it's like a real song and everything! That was so cool as well lol
And now on a last note, THE twist of this episode, of course - my reaction when Mysterious Person whacked Sayid? Oh PUTAIN which, for you, would go something like this Fucking SHIT. I mean, I was so focused on him receiving the signal and I so didn't see that coming that I couldn't help but yell and startle. So yeah, who the hell did that? And for God's sake WHY? And WHO? Ah, I already asked that. Is it someone from the gang? Someone who would hate to leave the island, then --and hey, didn't I mention if I was Locke, I wouldn't want to leave the island? Or is it something totally new? Damn, when things start to get *blink* Well no, I was going to say when things start to get less confusing they go and confuse the hell out of us, but things are still quite confusing, so it doesn't change anything lol
Apparently next week is Sawyer's episode? I'll admit I'm curious about it because if so far I couldn't care less about him, in "The Moth", he sorta interested me a bit, yes, so I'm curious to learn about his backstory.
[Edit: Hey guys, try to remember I'm going into Lost 100% spoiler-free so try not to spoil me when you comment here, all right? *g*]
Sooo? Stillmadlyinlovewiththatshow... and I so don't see it stopping anytime soon *shakes head*
That was so cool *happy sigh*
So do I have time to watch it before leaving? *peeks at clock* Yeah okay, I think I have - woohoo!
Oh btw, this has nothing to do with anything, but last night The Great Momo came home with his bro Walking Virus Ali and Momo worked on my computer to try and fix some things... as a result, there may be some kind of new stuff to fix and there's a slight probability that I can't log in again later on. Life can be scary sometimes for a net junkie. I tell myself that if it happens, I'll cheer myself up with "The Moth", so it'll be alright for a while - then again, and if it does work, I'll celebrate with "The Moth". totally agree with everything you said, WHO IS THE MYSTERIOUS GUY WHO KNOCKED SAYID UNCOUNSCIOUS
TO HAVE HIS WAY WITH HIM?????and totally expected Charlie to confess to fucking guys, but nooo ... you can have a junkie as your favourite character, but not a "fag"! *rolls eyes* not that he'd be the first heroin-user, eyeliner-wearing rockstar to be a little on the ambiguous side ... i agree with you though, nothing says he didn't, he just didn't confess to it.
i see the Locke/Charlie potential, but i'm not really interested, i guess i'm too shallow and Locke just doesn't do it for me. but SAWYER/SAYID!!! ROWR!! anyday, man!
ok, i'm stopping here because it's starting to look more like a review than a comment. review tomorrow.
GREAT EPISODE! but you already know that *g*

And I would love it if he were, though I'll admit I would love if there's another reason for Jack not being interested in Kate, as in... he's just not interested in her, period lol
We'll see *g*

saw it
Date: 2004-11-04 08:34 am (UTC)I started to like Locke back at his arc episode - they tried to freak us by having him take an interest in Walt (Aaahgh - pedophile!) but I think he's totally in zen-mode now -he's been the recipient of a miracle, and now he has the tightest connection to the mystery of the island. I still believe that he could go bad, though - he could become it's arm of justice or retribution or whatever.
Predictable vanilla-girl here still loves Jack *g* and I think I have a serious Jack/Charlie jones going on - the looks! the banter! protective of each other! don't get me started...
Loved Charlie - he's such a good actor, maybe the best on the show, I think. I believed his whole thing - it was just heartbreaking.
Kate? pffft. Sawyer? double-pffft. Sayid? oh, man. my het ship could so be Kate/Sayid (assuming she stops being an idiot) He is so freaking hot - how about that "I don't trust him... with you." line? melt, melt, melt... And he is so The Professor on Gilligan's Psycho Island - coconut phones are not far off, I'm sure.
Good Michael, good Hurley, good Sun ("It's too hot. Fuck you." finally!)And about Scott and Steve... I read a review way back in the summer (potential spoiler here, I guess):
that the premise of the show is that there are 48 people, and any of one of them could become a key character at any time - that this is a revolving door type of cast, though I haven't seen that so far. The article also implied that we shouldn't get too attached to anyone. ulp!
My only complaint? the moth symbolism. just beat us over the head with it, why don't they? we get it, we get it! he's a moth, it's a cocoon, okay, okay...
hmmm... this is soft of long.... I'll stop now *g* Overall, though - so cool!
Re: saw it
Date: 2004-11-04 11:43 am (UTC)I so couldn't wait for that episode! I mean, I've literally been waiting for seven weeks so I was really excited lol And it didn't let me down *g*
Locke really is an interesting character and I'm so curious as to what he really knows and how he's using that knowledge and all those mysterious questions *g*
I'm not-so-slowly being converted to Jack/Charlie. Not that I'm giving up Locke/Charlie --nor Hurley/Charlie for that matter-- but their chemistry was pretty good in that episode. And protective!Jack is a sight to behold... well, when it's directed at my favourite guy *g*
Charlie was so very brilliant in that episode. Well Dom was that is *g* I bought it all as well, and loved his arc. Some may think it's not exactly original but seriously I don't mind because it was painful and heartbreaking at times and it was enough for me - loved those intense feelings!
Kate is really a big disappointment *sigh* Too bad because if they don't do something drastic, I'm just going to forget about her because boooooooooooooring *sigh*
Funny, you're the second one who got annoyed at the moth symbolism and how it was supposedly shoved down our throats but like I said, to me it was so obvious that it was actually put in the background, as in it wasn't even exactly worth being mentioned. Like... yeah, so it's there and everyone knows it since it's all over the place, so what? lol
Hey wait! When I said I read your comment? I realised I actually more or less skipped the spoilery part... so it's even more okay than what I thought lol Sorry to make you worry!
Re: saw it
Date: 2004-11-04 01:31 pm (UTC)Phew! I feel better now. *g*
One last Jack/Charlie squee... right before the cave-in, when Charlie was yelling at Jack and saying "I know you think I'm useless," etc. all I could think was - Jack dude, he's not listening to you, just kiss him! Wasn't that the perfect set-up? heehee
Re: saw it
Date: 2004-11-04 01:38 pm (UTC)Someone has to write Jack/Charlie now using that episode, they have to! Because it's just the way to do it!

Also, don't let your journal go into read only mode again. Trying to comment was driving me insane, same at ST now

Date: 2004-11-05 01:14 am (UTC)The read only mode is a bitch. Also, did the posts with the new challenge and the closing of the old one at ST appeared on your flist? Cause it didn't appear on mine. Or I need to go back a lot further to find it.

Date: 2004-11-06 03:13 am (UTC)I did see the ST posts, I suspect that LJ is taking one of its frequent blips. Nothing major this time but lots of niggly things like not sending some comments and all these damn read only journals. Now that annoys me more than any moth.

Btw? Don't you ever dare joke about me forgetting about CHARLIE on my LJ. Just the thought makes me ache *chokes*

Date: 2004-11-05 06:55 am (UTC)So yeah, as I was saying: YOU MENTIONED SAWYER IN AN ENTRY!!!! *dies of joy*
It doesn't take much to make me happy, I'll give you that - but still: eeeeeeeeep!
re: Kate being mean to Sawyer *is in heaven* we agree, my precious! :D
re: Jack didn't bore me at all during today's episode. Don't want to think it was only because of his interaction with Charlie *raises eyebrows* you expect us to believe that? *giggles*
re: Charlie... funny, I barely noticed him in this episode *whistles innocently*
*dies from receiving a Quid on head*
My headstone will say: "One shouldn't underestimate Charlie's power".
*voice of doom* RIP, dumbass, for having made a bad joke about Charlie.
*Ghost!Babycakes* but, wait, like, what happened to Sayid?!

I'm glad you enquidified yourself with the quid because you spared me the effort. I would have actually enquidify you with the Special Move. I never used it so far... none of us did and you know what with Duncan, we would have lots of opportunities, but this? Really asked for it. Just so you know *nod*
Now that it was said.
Re Sawyer. Yes I mentioned him, isn't that fucking cool? But seriously, I couldn't not to. And I could squee over him next week if the angst decides to be accentuated with him. I'm just worried that they're all going to turn into Jack/Sawyer but that show is turning the lot of us into whores who would slash anybody with anybody... can't be helped, I'm afraid.
Btw? This was a not-really-subtle way of asking for Jack/Charlie icons *cough* Do you think you could do one which resembles that one? *points icon* With intense Charlie of course, but with The Moth? Shouldn't be too hard lol I'm aware the scenes were rather dark though, but do whatever you can, all right? Just in case though, well you know I'd love to have several icons from you *g*

Date: 2004-11-06 08:04 am (UTC)I take it you didn't receive my mail telling you that I'll be working on icons from Moth this weekend - that answers your question lol And you know me, I looooove making dark pictures tolerables :D
I miss my 50 icon slots, believe you me... *licks Sawyer icon* Those things need to be done lol
