Jun. 21st, 2005 01:15 amBefore I even start could I state for the record that OMG THE HEAT IS GOING TO KILL ME! Kill me I tell you!
Okay, now that it's done, let's change the subject.
I watched Numb3rs just now, "Uncertainty Principle" - #2 on my Favourite Episode List [#1 being the infamous "Sniper Zero", of course] - and I have an observation to make. Well maybe not so much an observation as a plea for help.
*clears throat*
Dear PTB,
Please release the DVDs soon pleasepleaseplease OMG PLEASE? The CDs I used to burn the illegally downloaded episodes of your oh so wonderful series are starting to get sick! I watched them a tad too much I'm afraid [except that I could argue the point and say that one couldn't ever watch Numb3rs too many times] and it's starting to show. Also, when I say "illegally" as if it were a bad thing? That's not how I see it at all because hi! There are no DVDs available yet and the show doesn't air in my country so a) I'm not making you lose money because there's no money to lose at this point and b) I'll actually make you earn more money cause technically, if I hadn't torrented Numb3rs I wouldn't have even fucking known of this series and I wouldn't want to spend my money for the DVDs now, money that will go right in your pocket, right? Right. Anyway, I need aforementioned DVDs pronto. So you take care of that, thank you kindly.
And anyway I'll stop downloading stuff from the net when They'll stop selling blank CDs and Divx players, kthxbai.
Yeah anyway back to "Uncertainty Principle", that episode is still good beyond the telling of it even after the 54th viewing - so many moments or scenes I just love to pieces. Well there's the whole theme of the episode that I adore of course, because there was such angst and it gave us some wondeful info on Charlie's psyche as well as an incredible interaction between the brothers and considering it was only the second episode, that was even more delicious, know what I mean?
Watching it again after some time makes me fall in love all over again with some scenes. Like the one which might be my favourite in the episode - the one at the pond between the two brothers. That's such an angsty and intense scene, I love it! And I adore how Charlie reacts to Don's rough treatment... actually, I always thought it was rather childlike. When Don grabs him and shakes him, when he's rough with him, Charlie doesn't lash out, doesn't push back, he just does this little movement which always reminds me of a little boy. At mean at this point, that's the image that always pops in my head. Gives a new edge to the scene somehow. Cause Charlie truly looks lost... I feel so sorry for him. For Don too, mind you, cause you know what he's trying to accomplish here but I always think of Charlie first and foremost, so...
The whole thing is the reason why I love the episode so much actually - how Don behaves towards his brother. How he's the one who's able to reach Charlie in the end. Not even Alan, not Larry, Don. His way is definitely the rough way, but obviously it's what Charlie needed - Don might be tender and sweet and supportive towards Charlie most of the time, but he certainly knows when to stop the coddling and go straight the point, even if it has to be a tad brutal.
I'd forgotten Alan's reaction when he learns that Don's "scratch" was from a bullet, how he recoils - that was such a sweet scene. No stupid macho shit coming from Alan where his sons are concerned, no siree. I'll be eternally grateful for Alan's characterisation, believe me.
I still enjoy the interaction between Charlie and the FBI gang. I mean, they're always willing to work with him - they're never an obstacle. On the contrary, it seems like Terry and David - well, Don is a given, so that's why I'm not including him here - are always eager to let Charlie do his magic. He'll ask questions which are meant to push them to the right direction and they're immediately "playing", answering him, trying to see what his angle is, participating without resentment or distrust... that's really awesome.
Which reminds me of the scene right after Charlie comes back to Don's office with his new theory: when he gives the name of the bank and stuff to the group of agents who then all sloooowly turn towards him, stunned and puzzled at how he could know that kind of thing just by watching a series of numbers. Everyone looks stunned except for Our Gang and I just noticed that David - sorta hidden in the left corner, well hopefully that's him, now I'm starting to wonder whether I remember right. Typical - is actually chuckling when Don tries to explain that Charlie does some work for banks and stuff - as if it explained everything... which in truth does - I thought it was awfully sweet *g*
Finally, the last scene is still as wonderful as I remembered it - as are all Eppes Men scenes, anyway. I love Charlie's face and body language when Don comes back - nervous, awkward, relieved and eager all at the same time. Then the family gathers for good around the table and there's teasing and sweet banter and then Alan starts about how his wife would be so proud and happy to see her boys like that and just aww man, I love them so much! *happy sigh*
Is it time for season 2 yet? No? Well we're back to the DVDs thing, aren't we? *is impatient*
No wait, speaking of season 2, I meant to ask... does the new season of Battlestar Galactica premiere in July?? Cause that would be so awesome! SG and BSG back at the same time? Oh goodie! So is it true?

Date: 2005-06-20 11:32 pm (UTC)Sometimes I want to rewatch that "OMG a real bullet!!" (as I call it in my head) scene all by itself, just for the way in which Alan says it :D

Date: 2005-06-21 01:08 am (UTC)This is one of my favorite episodes - so many good things. I was sort of disappointed that they did the Charlie-breakdown episode so soon in the series, though. But I guess it makes sense, b/c he would realize that the whole thing is real pretty quickly. (Also, at that point there were only three episodes ordered - they needed to get as much mileage out of it as possible, I suppose. *g*)
Yes! And he isn't above reminding Charlie how he acted when their mother was dying - talk about a low blow! The scene in the garage was the big one for me - how Don alternates between compassion for Charlie's worry and anger that Charlie won't help him out... and I loved that Charlie's breakdown is due to Don almost dying - *loves*
Alan is so, so wonderful! That recoil was perfect, completely perfect - you can just feel how deeply he cares about them.
I also love how they show the carnage through Charlie's eyes - and I didn't get it at first, but he'd looking for Don, not just reacting. He only reacts when he sees that Don is okay.
God, I love this show. *bg*
I'm pretty sure BSG starts up in July, too. *joy*

Date: 2005-06-21 10:24 am (UTC)I can't say I was disappointed that they did the breakdown so soon but I was definitely surprised. I mean, usually, they do that kind of thing later in the series - now, you tell me that they only had three episodes ordered? Well it makes sense. And I'm quite grateful about that, in a way, cause it gave us that incredible episode soon in the series *g* Also, considering how Charlie was learning to face the realities of his new job as early as the first episode, it did make sense that the breakdown would happen so soon, too. In particular since it was because of Don's near miss.
And yeah the carnage scene was wonderfully done!
As for Alan... that man is so wonderful that there's no word for it *loves Alan*
Hee yay! BSG is coming back next month! *bounces*
Numb3rs
Date: 2005-06-21 10:26 pm (UTC)2) Num3rs: if I remember correctly, in our last phonecall we talked about that episode exactly *g* I'm currently on a diet: no more Num3rs episode until the next episodes arrive, because then I know I'll have a Eppes Family Feast *beams* And in that episode, the whole 'I don't know how it came to the point that I need you to do my job' just floors me anytime. But now Charlie is much more 'grown up' in the new episodes - don't you miss the 'autistic' Charlie?
3) And anyway I'll stop downloading stuff from the net when They'll stop selling blank CDs and Divx players, kthxbai.
amen, sista! *high fives*
4) back to Num3rs: in the first episode, wasn't there some kind of tension between Don and David (the black FBI guy?) - how come it wasn't mentioned afterward?
Re: Numb3rs
Date: 2005-06-22 12:18 pm (UTC)2) When I wrote my entry, I kept thinking of our last convo on the phone *g* I sent your CDs Monday btw, so hopefully you'll get them... soon-ish. Also, I hope you won't have trouble watching Numb3rs 1x13 cause the format is different. It's not an .avi file but an .xvid one. Remember, I downloaded that one the day after btefnet had disappeared and it was the only file I could find *sigh*
I don't miss 'autistic' Charlie per se, cause I do get Issue!Charlie anyway. Not to the same extent than in that second episode, maybe, but enough that I still enjoy that side of him *eg*
3) *high fives back*
4) There was, and it was totally abandoned right in the second episode. That's one of those things that appear in pilots but which are considered just bad-introduction later in the series, you know? lol
the one with subliminal messages
Date: 2005-06-23 01:30 am (UTC)2) bah, I'll DL something to make it work *determined*
*hugs Don*alright, so 'Autistic' was not the right way of saying that *giggles* I caved in and watched 'Counterfeit' last night
*loves Don4) it's especially weird since episode 1 was supposed to be episode 2, and vice-versa. I don't like it when they do that
especially when it involves Don
