Jan. 2nd, 2004 12:37 amAm pretty tired right now, but I just know I won't be able to go to sleep. So I thought, hey it's a good occasion to post something.
Yeah, I know, as if I needed 'occasions' to post anything! lol
So, like I said in my previous entry, we went and saw Master and Commander.
The movie was nothing like I expected. Of course, if you ask me now, I wouldn't be able to tell you what exactly I expected, but I just know it wasn't what I saw.
Was I disappointed? Not at all.
It sure started rather - interestingly, shall we say. See, I know I've seen definitely more graphic and bloody scenes, but I just wasn't prepared for the two little scenes at the beginning of the movie - don't ask me why - nor was I really prepared for Babycakes' reaction. Man, she reacted really strongly, and just fainted. She didn't scare me that much though, since even though I didn't expect it, I knew something like this could happen - I remember how she reacted to the suicide scene in a movie all those months ago. I just waited for her to come back, let her leave for a moment, and waited for her return. At that point, I was ready just to pick our coats and leave altogether, but she assured me, when she came back, that she was alright. So we stayed.
It went better after this.
Like I said, I wasn't disappointed at all. I actually really loved the movie. I thought it was compelling, interesting, and the rhythm sure rocked.
Now, another reason why I liked it so much is because, well, I just didn't know I was going to see a love story between a Captain and his surgeon mate! Talk about a nice surprise *g* I mean, TS might have met its match in the gay-subtext-turned-plain-text department. I'm not kidding! I just found another 'canon' pairing next to Jim/Blair : Aubrey/Maturin.
Oh and since I'm talking about revelations, I also found two old past lives of Jack and Daniel. Not kidding either. Aubrey!Jack and Stephen!Daniel. Really sweet.
The relationship/friendship between the two was just... well, wonderful.
The plot, the battle scenes, the scenes on the ship were just awesome, like the scenes on the Galapagos islands - and really, the characters were so excellent. Blakeney in particular was fantastic!
Now, I decided that I was going to read the series- maybe not the 20 books, but hey who knows *g* This will be my resolution for 2004 *nods*
Before leaving - why didn't anybody tell me BILLY BOYD played in that movie? I mean, someone isn't doing their job! Just picture the scene :
*Billy Boyd appears on screen*
Mouse: *blinks* *turns toward Babycakes*
Babycakes: *turns toward Mouse*
Mouse: Hey is it-
Babycakes: Did you see?
Mouse/Babycakes: Billy Boyd!
Mouse: Man!
So, uh, now that I mention it - we're sorta sorry for the people sitting around us!
I'll definitely wait for the DVD to be released *sigh*

Date: 2004-01-02 05:00 am (UTC)I just wanted a slashy line, and considering the show (Stargate SG1), I thought the 'altar thing' fitted perfectly.
So, were your question about slash, or just about the 'altar' reference in particular? Cos the altar just popped into my head, with no real meaning behind it, like I said. Just sounded good to my ears, and something Jack and Daniel would do *eg* If the question was about 'slash'- well, the explanation could definitely be longer *g*

Date: 2004-01-02 04:17 pm (UTC)Well, that would indeed explain why you didn't get the SG1 reference *g* And that would be pretty understandable too.
Fortunately for me, SG1 isn't aired on the cable yet. I'm cable-less too *sigh*
i'm a dork.
Of course not *pets Greg*
