I miss SPN already *pout*

Remember when I recc'ed The Ice is Thin SPN post-finale fic? Well lookit there's a follow-up *points right* Underneath my Lucid Skin and it hurts as good as the previous fic does. It's powerful and heartbreaking, and I'm completely in love with those two stories!

And seriously - silent!Dean? Is so one of my kinks. Silent!character - due to trauma or whatever - is in general but silent!Dean is definitely at the top of the list. Also, I adore the fact that John's diary actually mentions that kind of thing. How little!Dean didn't talk for a while. And see, those diaries, you can see them as canon pieces or not. It was never mentioned in the show per se, but it's supposedly in the diary Johns owns, so, really, it's up to you to decide what to do with that piece of information. And the point isn't whether it is canon or not, the point is whether you want it to be. Life is complicated enough, at least this isn't. If you want it, you take it, if you don't, you leave it. The End. And I know I kinda see it as a canon source. As in, when I look at Dean, I integrate the whole silence into his past and what makes him what he is now - because it's too beautifully angsty for me not to take into account.

Speaking of SPN, I watched "Devil's Trap" again yesterday - needed to reward myself for sticking with Finkielkraut, see? - and each time I see it, it's like the first time. It doesn't matter that I know that John is, in fact, not!John, each time Dean pulls the colt to him and he's trying so hard not to back down and Sam is trying to understand what is going on, I want to cry. I only 'relax' - I use the term loosely, btw - when not!John finally reveals himself because at least the mental torture is over. Well, mental torture part 1, that is.

Also, not!John poisoning Dean's mind and attacking him on his insecurities won't ever NOT be deliciously painful. And apparently, I won't ever not feel my heart race when not!John is bleeding Dean and Dean is pleading with his father. Just - God, that scene... it's so fucking good I could spend a hundred years watching it, and I'd still feel the same emotions. Finally, the rear-view mirror scene won't ever stop being intense and beautiful.

Something else I don't think I'll ever get tired of is JDM's performance when he's being not!John. He's so fucking awesome! I wish I'd felt the same way towards Meg, it would have been nice, but at least JDM totally made up for it. His voice, his postures... the way he leans toward Dean... it's so intimate and so wrong and so brilliant. Big Baddie is toying with the boys and he's obviously having the time of his life and it shows and I JUST LOVE THE WHOLE SCENE TO PIECES. The End.

tallisen asked her flist to make a list of all SPN episodes, from favourite to least favourite and I would need to watch them all again to be able to choose - oh the chore! *rolls eyes* - but off the top of my head, I think the top of the list would look like this:

1. The Journey Home
2. Devil's Trap
3. Faith

Then it would get a bit complicated because between "Asylum", "Salvation", "Something Wicked" and "Dead Man's Blood" I would need to, like, torture myself into picking an order. Though wait, the least favourite episode? Would be "Wendigo".

That finale still just kills me. I watched the last fifteen minutes or so again last night, and guh it's still just sooooo good, and doesn't lose anything after you've watched it...oh...a million times.

Oh, me too! The fact that Dean doesn't say anything in the Impala before the crash says so much more than if he'd sat there talking about everything that had happened. Particularly because, through the series, Dean's angst has always been shown in what he doesn't say as much as what he does - through his eyes and his facial expressions. I mean, just look at episodes like Something Wicked and Journey Home...that last scene when Sam asks Dean if he's worried about his new psychic abilities and Dean makes some joke about Vegas, but then you get that final shot when he looks back into the motel room and you can clearly see just how worried he is, but he never says a word about it.

As for the diaries, as far as I'm concerned they're canon - particularly after the scene in Dead in the Water when Dean's talking to the silent kid (Lucas?). He says something then about seeing something really bad happen to his mom and that he didn't feel like talking either. So even though he doesn't explicitly say that he was silent for weeks, between that and the diary it's pretty conclusive as far as I'm concerned. :)

And what can I say about Evil!John, but... guh...he may be evil and twisted and demony, but man, that guy has charisma... *eg* I do hope that they don't kill John off, though, because with everything the demon was taunting Dean with about his family and that they don't need him, there are so many issues between Dean and John that I want to see John finally face up to, but obviously if he's dead that won't happen. Plus, I think Dean needs to face the fact that he has every right to feel angry at John after all the things he's done, but no-one speaks ill of the dead, and if John dies in the crash then I just can't see that happening.

Squeee!!! I'm doing that this weekend! I'm going over to stay with a friend on Friday who is as obsessed with SPN as I am, and we're going to watch the entire season from start to finish between Friday night and Sunday (complete with rewinding the good bits, obviously) and discuss plots and Dean and John and Dean and Sam and Dean and...did I mention Dean? *eg*

But I would have to say, at the moment my three fave episodes would have to be: (in no particular order because I can't choose!)

* Asylum (purely for the shooting scene...guh)
* Benders (red hot pokers - need I say more?)
* Skin (I adore the fight scene at the end!)

But of course, that means I can't include the finale, or Something Wicked, or Faith, or Shadows...ack! I can't choose!

Yes, yes, exactly! It's still as intense and as stressful and as painful as it was the first time and I just LOVE that it is.

Dude, I love you! I'd totally forgotten that line. See? I do need to watch all the episode all over again :-) You're right, he did say it, which does make the whole silent!little!Dean canon for good. Yay!

Oh he has, he definitely has. From the first moment when he says 'didn't think so' I was completely hyptonised. His voice alone would have done it, but when you combine it with everything else: the posture, the taunting - it's like a recipe for a wonderful scene!

I do hope that they don't kill John off, though, because with everything the demon was taunting Dean with about his family and that they don't need him, there are so many issues between Dean and John that I want to see John finally face up to [...] no-one speaks ill of the dead, and if John dies in the crash then I just can't see that happening.

I hope they won't kill John off too. First from a very selfish point of view since I love the guy too much and second for the reason you mentioned. I think there's a LOT of potential here and killing him might just destroy it altogether. Which would be very sad.

Your weekend sounds awesome! Maybe I'll follow your lead and treat myself with a little SPN marathon too. In between studying, it could be good!

Absolutely nothing at all, my dear :) Oooh, are you on the supernaturalvid LJ community? There have been some absbolutely FAB music vids posted over the last few weeks, including Always Look on the Bright Side of Life which had me in stitches, and a hysterical one which is basically a mock up of John and Evil!John trying to outdo each other which how difficult their children are. *sniggers* If you haven't seen it let me know and I'll hunt the link out for you, because I laughed so much I cried! (Just the antidote for the trauma of Devil's Trap)

Yes, yes, silent!Dean! The Ice is Thin in particular is wonderful as far as silent!Dean is concerned. But don't forget to read the sequel as it's brilliant as well. I see the online journal as being canon. ^_^ They make the effort to include the things we do know are in there (like the coordinates), and they've actually added things as the episodes air that relate to the plot points. That's enough for me to accept it as canon.

Even if I didn't, though, I'd accept silent!Dean as canon, because Dean himself actually said so. In "Dead in the Water" when Dean talks to silent!Lucas, he says that he didn't feel like talking either when he was a kid and went through something bad. So there ya go. ^_^

Exactly, there're enough links between what we see in the show and what we find in this on-line diary for me to see it as canon.

*pouts* You know what I'd really like to find? Post-finale fic where it's Dean who's hurt and the others have to care for him. Every story I've been finding has Sam the worst off (if you don't count John being dead in many of them) and Dean worrying over him. Heck, a lot of them seem to treat Dean's injuries as being nothing, as though major internal bleeding and blood loss and shock from the demon, plus the effects from the crash is something you could just shrug off.

Have you happened to see anything like that around? I'm desperate. ;_;

LYSA omg! Look, when the finale aired, I knew, without the shadow of a doubt that hunting for fics would just bore me to death because I knew, I knew, that people would have Sam as being the one who's hurt and Dean being the one to take of him, as if NOTHING had happened to him.

Which okay, dude, I'm okay with that. I don't want to read that kind of fics but I accept that people in the fandom just don't like me and refuse to cater to my whim, you know? It sucks, but that's life in the SPN fandom. Whatever.
