Did I ever talk about my upstairs neighbours? Don't think I did. They're ok, quiet most of the time and polite. They're also musician wannabes. Which, ok, I do think it's cool for people to try out different instruments - and even though they might not be consistent, they seem pretty open so more power to them - but, between you and me? I can't wait for them to stick to one instrument and! More importantly to learn how to play it. Properly.
Last couple of months was the guitar. This month? It's djembe. Every evening (that is, every evening when I'm home but I'm pretty sure it's every evening) they do a little djembe jam. Did you know that five-year-olds love banging the shit out of a djembe? Because they do. I'm hoping they'll get tired of that one soon and start playing, I don't know, triangle?
As a result of my neighbours being all musician-like, I decided to rock on too and finally christen Guitar Hero. Totally the same thing, dude. I LOVE it. I'm definitely not ready to enter a competition yet but I'm having a lot of fun. I foresee some Guitar Hero nights with The Esu and friends in the near future.
Changing the subject. I watched the three episodes of FlashForward last night and I liked it. I wasn't blownaway but I'm still hooked. Only problem is, I can't help but being worried this will be another Lost. I mean, I don't want the show to go in all directions without ever reaching any destinations, know what I mean? That's why Lost, well, lost me. So I'm going into FlashForward almost reluctantly in a way, except for how I quite enjoy the premise. I always loved the whole 'fate' theme - are we bound by it or can we make our destiny? Seeing all those characters try to fight against their future is really interesting.
And it's also fun because you speculate the hell out of the show, like what if the reason why Janis (lady-agent-future-pregnant-girl?) is a) alone and b) crying when she's doing the sonogram is because Demetri is the father and she's all sad because he was killed ded in March? I can't see him cheating on his fiancée, but then again I can't see Olivia cheating on Mark either. Except for how we can, if only because the Mark we see is definitely not well, so maybe Demetri will crack under the pressure of knowing-the-date-of-his-death and being unable to talk about it with said fiancée and sleep with Janis, as you do. Oh and what about Bryce? I'm hoping we'll get to see more of him because he's the character I latched onto the most - his first scene of Extreme Woobieness and Emotional Angst totally got me, hook line and sinker. Now, I'm just hoping we'll get to see more of him. And what did he see exactly? I mean, ok, so it was all positive, which yeah, it had to be seeing the guy wanted to die just fifty seconds before it all happened but what was it? And so many familiar faces, too! Ruby! Zoe! Dude-from-l&o:suv etc. etc.
In conclusion, I do like it, but I'm just hoping I'll stay interested :-)

Date: 2009-10-12 12:05 pm (UTC)[1] Why is it that if an American movie/tv show/whatever contains Germans, it always has to be at least one Nazi? For fuck's sake.
I'm also worried about the many comparisons with LOST, because I never got into LOST but have heard enough from disappointed ex-fans (like you) to not want FF to become like it.
In conclusion: Jack Davenport. :D

I know! That's exactly what Cookie and I ranted about when they introduced that character. Of course he had to be a Nazi, he was German. Seriously, let it go already!
I'm hoping they won't go to France in future episodes, because I don't want to see French people wearing a béret and driving cars that my grandparents used to drive. When they were young!
Americans and stereotypes in their shows, man, it always drives me crazy.
I suppose they wanted to attract LOST fans (apparently there are still some left? [/is joking]) but it wasn't the best comparison for me, I have to say. We'll see...

Date: 2009-10-15 12:55 pm (UTC)as for their stupid stereotypes... of course it's an FBI team from LA who takes the lead in a world-wide research, out of the blue. And I didn't like their condescending comments about the other nations' hypothesis.
American show, dude, what did you expect? Like I was saying above, I'm hoping they won't come to France. I can foresee a lot of annoying moments if they do.
and I feel so sad for Demetri, honestly!
I know! His situation is so scary and stressful and sad! I can't wait for them to start breaking a pattern for real, give Demetri some hope.

Date: 2009-10-18 10:08 pm (UTC)And now with the latest character from this week's episode, more parallel with Lost... What are they trying to achieve? It's pretty interesting to watch the show from that point of view actually: will they succeed where Lost failed or will they keep the Lost path? (I'm way too cynical about this show... It might now show here, but I like it, I promise! I want to know more about what people saw in their flash forwards...)

Date: 2009-10-19 01:29 pm (UTC)I'm really trying to cling to the idea that the show is based on a novel; therefore, they might avoid the LOST debacle by sticking as much as possible to an already existing plot. I don't know, I really want to keep liking it. But I'm just cautious, I guess. LOST traumatised us all a lot, didn't it? One doesn't forget that kind of tv betrayal lol

Date: 2009-10-19 01:34 pm (UTC)Lost and Heroes - two massive disappointments, I admit. Is anyone on your flist still watching Heroes btw?

Again*

Dude, if you hadn't asked, I'd have thought the show had been cancelled, actually lol That's how much people don't talk about it anymore on my flist. I think I still have have one LOST fan left (in the name of Karen) - or, ok, let's say 2, but I'm not sure about Heroes.

Date: 2009-10-12 10:15 pm (UTC)The show I'm actually quite curious about now is the remake of V, which premieres here on Nov. 3rd. I watched (and liked) the original miniseries, watched (and mostly liked until it just got too silly) the weekly series that was developed from the miniseries, and now the promo trailers for the new series are definitely sucking me in.

Date: 2009-10-15 12:59 pm (UTC)And wouldn't that be typical? For me to get into FF when you decide it's not your cup of tea, after all :-)
I must say that the fact the show is based on a novel reassures me a bit. Let's hope they'll stick to it as much as possible and don't get lost in new plots and new twists...
I'll try V out of curiosity too. I was a big fan of the original show when I was a kid (my favourite character was Martin) and I'm curious about this new version. Though I'm not 'impatient' to see it as such.

Date: 2009-10-13 04:30 am (UTC)I have not been the slightest tempted by flashforward. I think too that it will be just like Lost. So convoluted. I just cannot even try. I get tired of waiting for the payoff.

Date: 2009-10-15 01:03 pm (UTC)I'm trying to cling to the idea that the show is based on a novel, so with some luck, they won't stray too far away from the original plot and not get lost in new twists after twists *fingers crossed*
