Day 2 of Christmas break (the weekend doesn't count - because I usually don't work then - it's really when Monday comes that you realise that something exciting is going on and that your alarm didn't wake you up. Such a beautiful moment ♥). We had ourselves a lovely weekend, which was much more restful somehow than Day 1 of Christmas break because we basically spent the whole day yesterday playing with Ikea items and turning the guestroom into a real study; that is, we moved stuff around, got rid of some others and installed our brand new desks \o/ Admittedly, ours has nothing to do with, say, Charles Xavier's kinda study but, well, we have desks, right? :-)

Don't think I (or she) mentioned it on LJ (she always means to update and then doesn't) but Cookie went back to school to study Arts - same system as me, ie distance learning. She enrolled at the same university where we work :-) Each of us wanted to have our own student-y territory, so yesterday we went to Ikea to purchase the desks we'd seen on Sunday (Ikea, or one of people's favourite place to visit during the weekend? lol) Between the visit to the store (which took ages omg), the delivery, the assembling of the desks, the disassembling of the old desktop desk, the moving around of some shelves, the putting things in their new place, the cleaning up, the putting things away in the basement and the throwing away of the trash, we were busy from 12.00PM to 12.00AM We were so sore in the end omg! lol

But! It was all for the good cause because we totally love the result, we felt very accomplished; there's still a lot of room to move around and we both have our respective space to work and it's pretty neat. The couch and the remaining bookshelves don't match anymore, colour-wise, but we'll take care of that in the upcoming months so let's ignore that little detail :-)

Let me reveal a sekrit, I love it when people post pictures of their homes, even if it's just to show off their new lamp shades (we happen to have a new shade in the kitchen, as a matter of fact!) but I always feel a bit of a voyeur so that's why I put pictures of my own place up there, for all - so inclined - to see. So that I can peek inside your own places without feeling guilty of never reciprocating ;-)

In other words - a couple of pictures of our study :-) )

There you go :-) Today's program is: some work - sitting at our new desks \o/ - contemporary arts for Cookie and literature for me. Then! Some Christmas shopping in the afternoon and we'll end the evening - if we have the time - with Hugo before getting back and catching up on Once Upon a Time. We're all up-to-date with American Horror Story (I still can't believe how much I enjoy that show!) and we've heard some good stuff about OUaT so it's time to catch up and see what we missed since the last episode we saw :-)

Vacation D-Day \o/ Boss Man came in and was all "we're all leaving early, today, right?" And, you know, as we told him "your wish is our command, Boss!" The last day of work before Summer break is always a lot of fun around here. There's only a minimum of work accomplished (technically, you're supposed to have completed your big projects by then) and the day is dedicated to throwing away all the stuff you don't need anymore and cleaning out your desk. I've written a huge memo to myself for September - I have new (and exciting) projects coming up next (school) year and I want things to go as smoothly as possible right from the start - I've cleaned my desk and, basically? I'm done for the day :-p

Our first week of vacation is already filled with activities (albeit nice ones) and I'm thinking we'll have to include some LazyAss day at one point. Just want to spend a day in bed or on the couch, not touching my thesis - not even looking at it - and watching the telly (we're caught up on White Collar and True Blood but we need to give Falling Skies and Suits a try) and reading fics. And more fics :-) My obsession for everything related to XMFC, James McAvoy and Fassavoy has settled down a tad (keyword being "a tad") but I still need my daily dose of Erik/Charles. Going without for too long would be a bit cruel...

Speaking of White Collar, I really enjoyed "As you were" though it kinda tied me up in knots by the end - in a good way in the sense that I'm still really invested and all but I'm cutting this because I might enter spoiler territory soon ) One thing I do know is that I'll be tuning in till the bitter end! How many episodes are there left, btw? Are they on their way to a hiatus too?

Completely unrelated. Yesterday, after work, Cookie and I picked our rings. No wedding (for obvious reasons, even if we wanted to) or PACS (French civil union opened to same sex couples) ahead but we wanted something to celebrate our commitement and rings are always such a powerful symbol. Well, maybe not to everyone, mind, but they are to us, so we went and picked them yesterday. That is, we chose them but they had to order them from another shop so we won't be wearing them till mid-August. I can't wait! Expect some pictures when we do pick them up :-)

Today is one of those days that make you wish you'd stayed home. Not due to anything bad happening at work (it's not even 10.00Am yet, so that's a relief) but it's all grey outside and it's been raining all morning - it looks like we fired Summer and jumped directly to Autumn - and I'm cold and tired and, really, that kind of weather is for staying home with a cup of cocoa and something good on the telly or a good book to read.

The good news is that, as of yesterday, our university closes at 6.00PM sharp so even if we wanted to, we couldn't do a lot of overtime *approves* Plus, you know, I'm on holiday next week so I might be tired today but in my head I've already started conting down the days and that is a great feeling.

I'll have to be disciplined and finish writing my thesis during the summer but I'm impatient to do so and really motivated (especially now that I've received the encouraging and enthusiastic feedback from my supervisor regarding the first chapter I sent her) so I think it'll be done with a minimum of tears. Note that I'm expecting some tears, just hopefully not too many lol

Plus, I'm really looking forward to my break: three days in London with Cookie and her mates followed with four days in Alsace with part of the FP and then later in the month two days in Frankfurt to see Panic! at the Disco with another combination of the FP (permutation is the spice of life and everything *g*) and Cookie. Should be fun :-)

PS: Ahaha, I stole a kiss from the girlfriend in the corridor and as my lips were leaving hers, one of our co-workers got out of his office; I thought they were all away lol Technically, I'm pretty sure everyone knows we're a couple even though we've never said it as such - we talk about "the bedroom" and "the study" and when asked about our vacation plans we haven't hidden the fact that while I'll be in Alsace, she'll be in Brittany with my parents, so, you know, we might as well spelled it out but, obviously, we avoid any kind of PDOA at work. Then again, I let a chérie slip the other day. But we weren't close to anyone so it went unheard. We like to live dangerously, see? :-p]

ETA: Oh and I don't know if you heard but XMFC has been nominated at the Teen Choice Awards in the (among others) Choice Movie Chemistry category. Honestly, best nomination for XMFC ever Y/Y?

Friday! I'm so glad to see you. I thought you'd never come *clings* It's another quiet Friday evening for us. We left work early, got home, did some cleaning and vacuuming (before all our energy ran out) and we're now catching up with entries and fics and whatnot - no tv or music on, only the sweet sound of birds tweeting coming from the opened windows. Relaxed and domestic, so far from wild and crazy that it's not on the same page or even the same library and pretty much exactly what I've been longing for all week ♥

I might add some rock to the evening later, though, as my fingers are itching to play Guitar Hero... so after I've lazed about a bit on the laptop, I might do just that. If Cookie allows me near the telly, that is; she's been mailining SV for the past week (well, only The Best Episodes, am I told) and is back to fangirling Clark and Lex and Chloe and Lionel. Guess we'll have to solve the problem with some Ultimate Fighting to help us decide who will have control of aforementioned telly tonight? Stay tuned!

Or, we might just compromise, some GH for me followed with some SV for her... but the Ultimate Fighting thing sounds so much more fun!

Then again, I'm also eager to read more of The Burning Plain (Michael Nava) that I've started a couple of days ago so I might keep the rock-n-rolling for another day and leave Cookie alone with her beloved cast.

Hey, speaking of music, tickets were bought this morning for Patrick Stump's gig in Paris in May - or, as Cookie would say 'Michael Stomp' #IMockBecauseILove #AndThinkItsVeryCute I'll go with the usual suspects. The venue is really small so it should be fun :-) I also got my ticket for Eddie Izzard, btw, I'm all set \o/

Ok, Cookie read the draft of my entry and she says I could play GH but first, she made some nice appetizers that I can eat, even with Lent, so apéritif it is!

Happy New Year, flist. 2010 has been good to me but a bitch to some of my best friends so even though I'm grateful for everything that it gave me I can't help but hold a grudge for what it put aforementioned best friends through. 2010 has also been kinda mean to my parents professionally-wise, so I hope 2011 give them a break. Let 2011 be a good year for everyone *massive hugs*

As far as I'm concerned, 2010 ended very well; this morning Cookie, my father, my BIL and I all went to Cookie's mother's place to get the last of her stuff. We're now officially living together, as in all of her stuff is in Choisy. And we certainly worked well today as we wanted to put everything away so that the study/spare room looked like a study/spare room again for [livejournal.com profile] greedy_dancer who was coming over, as opposed to a disaster zone. Add to that the fact that we had to go and pick up some new bookshelves at the store, that I had to go to my parents' to borrow some decorations for tonight and, of course, that we had to cook our NYE's dinner and you can imagine how unlazy today was. But we managed to complete everything in record time and had the flat look all normal, the table all dressed up, the dinner all ready and us both all showered twenty minutes before GD arrived \o/

As for the NYE celebrations, we had a nice dinner, watched the Mighty Boosh, lazed around on the couch, laptops at the ready, watched the traditional documentary on The Crazy Horse (the cabaret) and just spent a quiet evening together. The girls have gone to bed by now (and, hey, even quiet evenings can keep us awake past 3.00am) and I have a Jack cuddled against me and purring like mad so I think I'm gonna enjoy the peace and quite some more before going to bed.

Going to and coming from work is epic these days! First, there's the strike which means you'll wait for an hour to get a train in which you won't be able to get because it's already packed. Then yesterday there was a technical problem with a train stuck in a tunnel, thus preventing all other trains to reach their destination (it took me two hours and half to get home - it felt much longer) and this morning there was yet a new message (I wonder how many of them they have?) related to aforementioned strike telling us there was no trains going to and coming from Paris because of the "invasion of a signal box" (signal box? I'm not sure this is the correct translation, sorry) and there were no trains circulating until further notice. Right. So I came back and I'm working from home today. Not that you'd not know with me writing this, but I'm on my lunch break, ha!

The situation at work is also interesting since the students started doing blockades yesterday. I've been in contact with my co-workers and they're doing it again today. The staff is allowed to get in but not the students. I don't know how long it'll last. The French love blockades, there's another one going on at the moment, ie fuel blockade which is a bit of a nightmare for people with a car because some of them can't drive anymore. And it's not as if they could use public transports easily, so that's a bit of a problem.

Having said, France isn't on the verge of collapsing, no matter what some foreign media are implying. We're not about to reenact Mad Max here yet, promise :-)

Since I'm boring you all with a RL entry, I'll add some more Mouse-centric news. First, as it happens, my girlfriend and I will live together a bit sooner than we'd planned to, so in December she'll be officially moving in ♥ We've started moving some of her stuff, moving some furniture around, buying new furniture and all, and by January she'll officially be the new inhabitant of the flat. Her and her cat. That part should be interesting since I've never had a cat in my whole life - nor ever thought of having one. Omg, I'm gonna be a step-mother! So, yeah, that should be interesting lol Expect some Cat-entries on my part in the near future :-p

And not related to the move but related to, like, our life, we also booked a little weekend in London for the end of January so YAY LONDON! I've missed going there so much, I can't wait to visit the city again :-)
